Axel POV
A couple of hours went by and I continued to stay by her side. I’m holding her hand, hoping the sparks of the mate bond will bring her back to me. Finally, I feel her fingers beginning to flinch and look up to her face to see her eyes beginning to flutter open. Aztec howls happily in my head.
I couldn't help but stare at her until she noticed me. I couldn’t wait to see those beautiful hazel eyes and hear that sweet melodic voice again. I finally found her and she just keeps slipping through my fingers.
Her eyes wander around the room, taking it all in and then they finally land on me.
“How are you feeling?” I ask her, desperate to hear that heavenly voice one more time.
“I’m okay, what happened?” She said with a scratchy voice. Oh how to explain that I was the cause of her accident? I’ll tell her in time, but for now I just got up and offered her some water.
“You were in an accident. You must have been avoiding something in the road and crashed into a tree.” Yeah, avoiding me. I hear Aztec whimper in the back of my mind. I know it was an accident, Aztec, I’m sure she’ll understand when I tell her the truth.
Oh s**t, is that her arousal I smell? Although I’m happy that she’s excited by my presence, we need to at least unravel the truth before I bury myself in her again.
“Well it must be a small world if you’re the one that rescued me.” She chuckled and my heart fluttered causing me to break into a big smile across my face. I would do anything to hear those mesmerizing sounds everyday for the rest of my life. Our eyes locked and it was like we were the only two people on the planet.
I heard someone walk into the room and immediately recognized the scent of Dr. Grey, but I just couldn’t tear my gaze away. Dr. Grey clears her throat and Isabella is pulled out while I just continue to watch her while they converse.
I’m pulled out of my lovesick haze,” Alp— Axel, may I have a word please?” She motions for me to follow her. I turn back to Isabella, smile, then proceed to follow Dr. Grey.
“Is everything okay?”
“I did a complete work up for her and she’s in pristine health. There is something about her blood though…” she trailed off while I stared at her to finish her thought. “It turns out that her blood isn’t human. It has aspects that someone with werewolf genes would have. As far as you’ve told me though, she is human is she not?” I stared at her in disbelief. My mate is probably a werewolf? But how? How come she didn’t recognize me as hers if she has a wolf? Why can’t I smell it? The questions are endless.
“Well she doesn’t recognize me as her mate. And I haven’t been able to sense her wolf either.”I answered hesitantly.
“Well her blood has all the proof we need. Would you like to go back in and tell her and see what she says?” I still couldn’t wrap my head around it.
“Well let me spend some time with her and see what I can find out. You said you’re keeping her for 24 hours?”
“Yes, but if she is a werewolf she should be completely healed by time I do the next neuro check.”
“Well thank you,Dr. Grey.” I give her a small smile and walk back into my mates room.
