Chapter Seventeen No one followed her as she dragged herself back to her cabin and slipped inside, closing the door. She allowed herself to fall apart alone, allowing everything in that moment to hit her with full impact as she fell to pieces, sliding down to the floor. After, she was left with this feeling of being drained. She managed to wipe her nose, which ached mercilessly, and she was left with wanting—no, needing nothing more than to sleep for a day or two in silence. As the evening started to settle in, she made her way over to the sofa and curled up on her side in her darkened living room, listening to the evening sounds, the dogs barking and then laughter from her parents’ place as the screen door squeaked. She pictured Taz and Jerry, Chris and Ivy, and maybe Mason and Scarlett
