Chapter — The Unexpected Meeting
Life never really gives you a chance to stop. You get tired, but you still have to keep going. And after marriage, responsibilities only increase.
Sometimes, I wonder what difficulties came into my life after marriage. The truth is, it is hard for me to understand them as difficulties anymore—because I have Adam beside me.
My life has changed so much since I married him.
I enjoy shopping now. I like dressing up. I like looking beautiful.
And sometimes, I wonder how Adam could possibly like me more than anyone else.
But I love that feeling.
Love changes you. It changes the way you think, the way you see the world, and even the little things you enjoy.
Now, I don't mind staying awake late at night. In fact, I love those late nights with Adam. I love being special to him.
I think every woman wants to feel special to someone—to have a person who knows the little things she likes, the things that make her happy, and the things that make her smile.
That morning, Adam and I had stayed up late watching a movie, but I woke up early anyway and prepared breakfast.
I walked over to the bed and gently touched his hand.
“Adam, wake up.”
He slowly opened his eyes.
“You're up already, Nora? Did you get enough sleep?”
“Yes.”
Adam smiled. “You know I don't like you sleeping too late.”
“Come on. Let's have breakfast together.”
“Okay. Let me freshen up first, sweetheart.”
A little while later, Adam came downstairs, and we had breakfast together.
“So, Nora, what's the plan for today?” he asked.
“Nothing special.”
“Then let's go play some games today.”
I smiled. “Okay. Let me get ready.”
“And we'll have lunch outside too.”
“Deal.”
Adam looked at me for a moment and smiled.
“You look so beautiful today, Nora.”
He pulled me into a hug.
“I waited so long to have you in my life. You're very special to me, Nora.”
I smiled against his chest.
“I know.”
We spent the day at the game center, laughing and enjoying ourselves like children.
There was a teddy bear in one of the claw machines that immediately caught my attention.
“I want that one!”
I put in a coin and tried.
Nothing.
I tried again.
Still nothing.
I kept trying while Adam watched me with an amused smile.
“Give me one try,” he said.
“Fine, but I don't think you'll get it either.”
Adam put a coin into the machine, carefully moved the claw into position, and pressed the button.
The claw grabbed the teddy bear perfectly on the first attempt.
I stared at him.
“How did you do that?”
He handed me the teddy bear with a proud smile.
“Because I have better luck than you.”
I laughed. “Or maybe the machine just likes you.”
We spent hours playing games, including car racing, and it had been a long time since we had enjoyed ourselves that much.
Later, we stopped to get something to drink.
I was holding my drink when someone suddenly caught my attention.
Max.
He was my former classmate.
He walked toward me, looking surprised.
“Nora?”
I turned around.
“Max!”
He stared at me for a moment.
“I can't believe how beautiful you've become.”
I laughed. “I can't believe how much you've changed either.”
Then I asked, “How are Tia and Ava?”
“They're fine. I really miss the three of you.”
He smiled.
“We should meet sometime. Let's all get together.”
I hesitated for a second before introducing Adam.
“Oh, Max, this is my husband, Adam.”
Adam politely extended his hand.
“Hello, Max.”
“Hi. I'm Max. Nora and I were classmates in college.”
“Nice to meet you.”
After a little conversation, Adam looked at me.
“Nora, let's go. I need to get home.”
“Okay.”
Before leaving, Max said, “Nora, give me your number.”
“Sure.”
I gave him my number.
“Add me on WhatsApp.”
“Of course.”
“Let's make a plan for dinner sometime. Bring Tia and Ava too.”
“Okay, definitely.”
“Bye!”
“Bye.”
We walked back to the car.
As soon as we got inside, I noticed that Adam was unusually quiet.
“It feels hot in here,” I said.
“Turn on the AC,” Adam replied. “Or lower the window.”
I looked at him.
“Adam, why aren't you talking to me?”
He kept his eyes on the road.
“You've been quiet ever since we left.”
“I'm just tired.”
“But you seem upset.”
“I have to go to the office early tomorrow.”
He didn't say anything else.
When we reached home, Adam went to bed early.
We had dinner outside, so there was nothing left to prepare.
The next morning, Adam reached the office early.
There was an important new deal being discussed, and everyone was extremely busy.
The deal was important enough that nobody wanted to make even the smallest mistake.
Adam was already in a bad mood, but he pushed his feelings aside and focused completely on work.
The meeting began.
The team started presenting their proposal to the other party.
Everything was going smoothly when one of the clients said,
“We're expecting your SEO specialist shortly. Should we continue the presentation, or would you prefer to wait?”
Adam replied calmly,
“We'll wait. It's better if you speak directly with our SEO specialist.”
A few minutes later, the meeting-room door opened.
Everyone turned toward the entrance.
Adam looked up.
And froze.
It was Max.
Max walked into the room with a confident smile.
“I'm sorry I'm late.”
Adam's expression changed immediately.
Max looked around the room, then noticed Adam.
His eyes widened.
“Nora's husband!”
He laughed.
“Wow! I'm really happy to see you again. I guess we'll be meeting quite often now.”
The room suddenly felt very different.
Adam said nothing.
Max took his seat and opened his laptop.
“Alright, let's discuss the SEO strategy for the deal.”
Adam looked at him silently.
Yesterday, Max had been Nora's old classmate.
Today, he was the SEO specialist handling one of Adam's most important business deals.
And for the first time, Adam realized that Max might not be just a person from Nora's past anymore.
He might become a part of their present.
