EPISODE 10 — THE TRUTH Adam went straight to my house. I was sitting quietly when the doorbell rang. I opened the door. My eyes widened. "Sir?" He looked worried. "Tia said you weren't feeling well." "I'm fine." "Then why did you leave work?" "I had a headache." He looked at me for a few seconds. "You don't look fine." "I'm okay." He walked inside. Then he went into my kitchen. "What are you doing?" "Making lunch." I stared at him. "You don't have to." "I know." He started preparing something simple. I watched him quietly. After a few minutes, I finally asked the question that had been torturing me. "Are you really going to marry Olivia?" Adam stopped. Then he turned toward me. "No." My heart suddenly felt lighter. "But she said your families..." "Our families are friends." He paused. "That's all." I smiled without realizing it. Adam noticed. "Why are you smiling?" "I'm not." "You are." "No." He walked closer. "Did it bother you?" "What?" "The idea of me marrying Olivia." I looked away. "I don't know." "Or would it bother you if I married someone else?" I couldn't answer. Adam came closer. "Nora." I looked at him. "Would it?" I swallowed. "Maybe." He smiled. "Maybe?" I nodded. "Maybe it would." "Good." I frowned. "Why?" He looked directly into my eyes. "Because I don't want anyone else." My heart stopped. "Then who do you want?" He reached for my hand. "You." I stared at him. Everything suddenly made sense. The jealousy. The late-night calls. The coat. The dinners. The business trip. The way he looked at me. The way he protected me. The way he always gave me space instead of forcing me. All of it. "You..." I couldn't finish the sentence. Adam smiled. "I loved you when we were young." I looked down. "I'm sorry." "For what?" "For the way I treated you." He shook his head. "You were young." "But I hurt you." "Yes." My eyes filled with tears. "I regret it." Adam gently lifted my chin. "You don't have to." "Why?" "Because if you hadn't rejected me then, maybe I wouldn't have become the person standing in front of you now." I smiled through my tears. "You really changed." "So did you." He stepped closer. This time, I didn't move away. He reached for my hand. I held his. Then he leaned closer. Our lips met. This time, I didn't pull away. I kissed him back. For the first time, there was no confusion. No fear. No jealousy. No past standing between us. Only love. When we finally pulled apart, I looked at him. "I love you." Adam smiled. "I know." I laughed. "How?" "Because I've been waiting years to hear it." I hugged him. And for the first time... I knew exactly what I felt. I loved him.
