THE NEW GIRL

EPISODE 6 — THE NEW GIRL The next morning, I returned to the office with Adam. Tia noticed me immediately. She rushed toward me. "So?" I blinked. "So what?" She crossed her arms. "Did anything happen?" Ava joined her. "Yes. Tell us." "Nothing happened!" Tia looked disappointed. "Nothing?" "Absolutely nothing." Ava laughed. "You're hopeless." I rolled my eyes. "You two are impossible." Before they could continue, the elevator doors opened. A beautiful woman walked into the office. Everyone looked at her. She was elegant, confident, and perfectly dressed. Her hair was styled neatly, and she carried herself like someone who was used to being noticed. She walked directly toward Adam's office. The door was open. Adam looked up. His expression changed. He stood. The woman smiled. Then she hugged him. My heart sank. I looked away immediately. Tia noticed. "Nora?" "I'm fine." "Who is she?" "I don't know." Ava whispered, "She looks close to him." I pretended not to care. But I cared. A lot. Later, I found out her name. Olivia. She was Adam's longtime family friend. She had recently returned from France. Throughout the day, I saw them talking several times. Every time I looked in their direction, I felt something strange in my chest. Jealousy. I didn't want to admit it. I didn't even have the right to feel it. Adam wasn't my boyfriend. He hadn't asked me to be his girlfriend. And I hadn't told him how I felt. So why did Olivia bother me so much? That afternoon, Adam came to my desk. "Nora." I looked up. "Yes, Sir?" "We're having dinner tonight." I blinked. "With the team?" "No." "Just us?" He nodded. "Okay." Then he walked away. I stared after him. Tia immediately leaned over. "Just you two?" "Yes." She smiled. "Interesting." "Stop it." That evening, I went out with Tia and Ava first. I wanted to clear my mind. Later, I returned home alone. I changed into comfortable clothes and opened my laptop. I had several documents to review. A few minutes later, my phone rang. Adam. I answered. "Hello?" "Nora, I need the project details." "I have them." "Do you have work left at home?" "Yes. We have a meeting tomorrow." "I'll come over." I sat up straight. "Sir, it's late." "I know." "Then why are you coming?" "I'll bring the documents." There was a pause. "You can make me coffee." I smiled despite myself. "You're unbelievable." "I'll be there soon." A short while later, the doorbell rang. I opened the door. Adam stood there holding a folder. "You actually came." "I said I would." He entered. We sat at the table and started working. For hours, we discussed the project. I explained my ideas. Adam listened carefully. At one point, he looked at me differently. "What?" "Nothing." "You keep looking at me." He smiled slightly. "You've changed." I frowned. "What do you mean?" "When we were in school, you never took anything seriously." I laughed. "That's not true." "It is." "I was young." "So was I." I looked at him. "You were always serious." "Not around you." My heart skipped. He looked back at the documents. "Continue." We kept working. Around midnight, I brought him coffee. He took the cup. "Thank you." I sat across from him. "You know, you're different too." "How?" "You used to be very shy." He smiled. "People change." I looked at him. "Do you ever think about school?" "Sometimes." "About me?" He became quiet. Then he looked directly into my eyes. "More than you think." I didn't know how to respond. That night, Adam finally realized something. The girl he had loved in school wasn't a careless teenager anymore. She had grown into a hardworking, responsible, kind woman. And somehow... He admired her even more.
