LATE NIGHT

326 Words
EPISODE 2 — That evening, the office slowly emptied. One employee after another went home. Eventually, only Adam and I remained. We worked on the project for hours. At first, the silence felt awkward. But slowly, it became comfortable. Adam was surprisingly patient. He explained things clearly and never treated me badly. By the time we finished, it was already late. Adam looked at the clock. Adam: "It's past midnight." Nora: "I didn't realize it was that late." He picked up his keys. Adam: "I'll drive you home." Nora: "You don't have to." Adam: "I insist." I couldn't argue. The next morning, Tia and Ava immediately surrounded me. Tia: "So?" Nora: "So what?" Ava: "You stayed alone with the CEO until midnight." Tia grinned. Tia: "Did anything happen?" Nora: "Nothing happened! He's actually a nice person." Ava crossed her arms. Ava: "You're twenty-seven and you've never had a boyfriend." Nora: "Why is everyone obsessed with my love life?" A few feet away, Adam walked past. He clearly heard us. And I noticed the smile on his face. That evening, Tia suddenly remembered something. Tia: "Nora! My birthday!" Nora: "What about it?" Tia: "You promised me a kiss as my birthday gift!" My eyes widened. Nora: "I said that as a joke!" Ava: "A promise is a promise." Tia: "You're not getting out of it." That night, the three of us decided to have hotpot. But when we reached the restaurant, Tia saw her boyfriend sitting with another woman. Everything exploded. They argued. Tia cried. We left without eating. I went home hungry and exhausted. Just as I reached my door, the doorbell rang. I opened it. Adam was standing outside. Nora: "Sir?" Adam: "I was hungry." I stared at him. Adam: "I thought we could have dinner together." I didn't know he had been at the same restaurant. He had seen everything. He knew we had left without eating. And somehow... He knew I was hungry.
