Steve couldn’t tear his attention from Dee. Her struggles settled to normal-crazed rather than demonic-wrath making it easier to watch her without the tight knot in his stomach rising to his throat. Highlighted by numerous lights passing over her face from ever vigilant solders, it was impossible not to watch.
He recalled her childish rage at the start of this nightmare, the calamity she’d caused in the aftermath of her awakening and compared it to the silent stalker who’d covertly silenced three soldiers. This change in behavior suggested a more evolved creature.
