Pulled awake by dreams that didn’t allow rest, Steve meandered back to the lab, pulled toward where he could see Dee still unconscious in her bed. Whatever the scientist had hoped to happen by taking her off the protocol remained to be seen.
He stopped short when he passed Ray administering another round of serum to Kim. “Didn’t you do that when I left?”
“I was told to increase the frequency. Apparently, they’re cutting Dee off, but doubling Kim’s dose to play both sides.”
“Why the drastic changes? Why now?”
Ray stepped back, staring down at the blonde whose peaceful expression belied her circumstance. “Who knows, but maybe this nightmare will finally be over.”
Steve grit his teeth. No matter what happened, his nightmare would never end.
