Chapter 5 How Can You Be This Pathetic?

1128 Words
Bernadette played her part convincingly, putting on a weak and pitiful act to perfection, her swaying steps making it seem as though Annie could knock her over with just one shout. Beside her, Aaron looked at Annie’s stubbornness with a cold expression on his handsome face, his thin lips pressed tightly together. He stepped forward a few paces, standing in front of Annie, looking down at the woman's pale face. "Annie, I suggest you get some shame and stop doing things like this!" he said sternly. With that, he turned and walked out. "Bernadette, let's go," he added, not looking back. Seeing Aaron's cold demeanor, Bernadette knew her goal had been achieved, and she felt very pleased. She quickly followed behind the man. Finally, at the moment Bernadette closed the door, she couldn't help but glance back at Annie, the corners of her mouth slightly curling up, the sarcasm unmistakably evident. Annie noticed her expression, but what could she do about it? No one in the world believed her, and now she truly found it hard to explain herself! As night fell, the dim light shone on Annie's delicate body, the tears on her lashes glistening, her inner grievances felt magnified in the night, with tears sliding down drop by drop from her eyes. Amidst the sounds of sobbing, Annie didn't know how long she had been crying until her phone chimed, pulling her thoughts back from the brink of despair. She picked up her phone, rubbed her tear-soaked eyes, and opened the screen, immediately seeing a w******p message from that person. Annie's heart skipped a beat, her index finger trembling as she opened the chat page. The glaring black text made her want to throw her phone against the wall. It clearly stated: "Before work tomorrow, place your underwear on Aaron's desk." Immediately after, the person on the other side seemed afraid that Annie wouldn't comply and added, "If you don’t do it, I'll spread the video!" In that moment, Annie felt utterly desperate, wishing she could just disappear! After crying for what felt like forever, she still couldn’t come up with a solution. Close to midnight, she finally changed into her clothes and left the Green Hotel. She hopped in a taxi, deciding to head back to the Piercefield first. Baily's behavior today had completely shattered all of Annie's previous hopes; a jerk like him who would sell out his own wife. How could she expect to spend the New Year with him without getting a divorce? Standing at the Piercefield's door, Annie steeled herself and walked in. What surprised her was that Baily was still awake; he was sitting on the sofa in the living room, which was cluttered with her stuff. "Baily, you!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with disbelief. This jerk had actually dumped all her stuff in the living room! Baily narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing in them as his tone thickened with disdain and sarcasm. "What, is it all done already?" he asked mockingly. After saying that, he snorted coldly through his nose. Annie paused, her soft hands clenched tightly, her fingertips digging into her skin without her realizing the pain. She knew that no matter what she said to Baily, he wouldn’t believe her. Annie bit her lip and stayed silent as she squatted down to pick up her stuff. Baily was furious at her indifference. He stood up, walked a few steps to Annie's side, stepped in front of her, and with a cold smile, he said, "You slept with another man and still came back to my Piercefield, Annie, do you still have any shame?" This time, Annie couldn't hold back anymore. After packing her suitcase, she took a step back to keep her distance from Baily, then gritted her teeth and replied angrily, "I came to get my things and will leave once I’m done." Baily stepped forward, grabbing her wrist. Although he had thrown Annie's things in the living room to make her leave quickly, her eagerness to leave really got on his nerves. "Annie, how the hell can you be this pathetic?" As he painfully yanked her wrist, Annie endured the pain and looked directly at Baily. "Baily, let’s get a divorce!" That statement sent Baily into a rage. He yanked Annie's wrist backward and then threw her directly onto the hard floor, followed by a roar: "Annie, what right do you have to propose a divorce first?" Annie fell hard, her limbs aching, a burning sensation in her chest causing her to cough hard. Once she caught her breath, she struggled to lift her head and scoffed. "Baily, didn't you sell me to someone else? Of course, I want a divorce!" Even looking a mess, her smile was heartbreakingly beautiful. This kind of woman really got under Baily's skin; he hated how determined Annie was. Baily bent down and yanked her up, then tossed her over his shoulder, quickly carrying Annie away, his tone cold and furious. "Shameless b***h, you want to leave, right? Fine, I'll help you!" With that, he walked out the door while carrying her. This sudden turn of events shocked Annie, suspended in mid-air, her head spinning. Feeling herself swaying constantly, Annie forgot about her safety, kicking and hitting Baily with all her might. "You bastard! Put me down!" But Annie’s struggles were nothing against Baily. Baily had already carried her to the door, the biting wind stinging Annie's tear-streaked face, the sharp pain filling her with regret; she really shouldn't have come back in the middle of the night. Now, with no one to call for help, if Baily killed her, perhaps no one would even know! Without a second thought, Baily tossed her out. With a thud, Annie hit the ground, her mind went blank, the pain nearly making her pass out. Her pink suitcase was tossed aside as well, and she heard Baily's roaring shout: "Annie, you shameless woman, you’ll never set foot in my Piercefield’s door again in your life!" In the next second, Baily quickly shut the door. Annie lay on the ground, having fallen so many times, her body could barely handle the overwhelming pain, leaving her as lifeless as a kite with its string cut. After a long time, the cold wind howled in her ears over and over before she shakily raised her arm, struggling to push herself off the ground, using all her strength to finally get up. Her body and face were covered in dirt, making her look a complete mess. Bending down to pick up her suitcase from the ground, Annie slowly walked forward. But in this vast world, where could she possibly go? Now that she had left the Piercefield, where was she supposed to go?
