The warm morning sun shone gently on the street, but Annie's heart was icy cold.
When she stepped through the gates of Hawthorne, there were hardly any people inside. She took the elevator straight to the floor of the president's office, which was also quiet.
She had come to the company early today specifically because of the order from that ominous w******p message yesterday.
Annie pushed open the door to the president's office, her heart racing in her throat. She took out the prepared lingerie from her bag, but her hand froze.
What if this behavior, akin to that of a promiscuous woman, gets discovered?
At that moment, her phone rang. Annie took it out and saw that it was indeed that ominous w******p message.
"Think carefully about whether to release it or not!"
This video can't get out, no matter what!
As Annie stepped out after closing the door, a voice rang out behind her, startling her to the point of nearly fainting. "Sister Annie, you're here so early today!"
Turning back in a panic, she saw an intern from the secretary department standing behind her. Annie steadied her nerves, "Yeah, today, there's quite a bit of work," and then walked towards her workstation without looking back.
Throughout the morning, Annie was restless. It wasn't until close to noon that the other key player in this drama finally showed up.
As Aaron walked past the department secretary, he turned his head and glanced over, meeting a pair of panicked eyes. He thought she was just embarrassed about last night and didn’t pay much attention.
However, when he pushed open the door to the office and saw the glaring lingerie on the desk, his eyes burned with anger. He turned and left the office, saying, "Kittie, send the surveillance video from last night until now to my email."
Annie was Aaron's executive assistant, and she usually conveyed various work directives from Hawthorne between departments.
The reason Aaron didn't call her to do this task was also due to considering everything they experienced last night, fearing she would feel embarrassed, and he never thought about what kind of "surprise" awaited him.
The two people in the secretary department saw the president come in and get so angry, each of them lowered their heads like quails, afraid of getting burned.
'Surveillance video?'
Annie's face became pale.
How could there be such a thing in the president's office? Why hadn't she known about it before?
Not long after, when she saw the red light flashing on the internal line, she knew that a storm was brewing.
At worst, she'd just get fired, but what could she do after leaving Hawthorne?
"Boss... you were looking for me."
When Annie pushed open the door to the president's office, she immediately saw the glaring lingerie still lying on Aaron's desk, along with the stormy expression on the man's face.
After saying that, she looked down.
"What? Aren't you going to lift your head to see your own work? It's quite well arranged!" The man's mocking voice rang above her head, making her want to find a hole to hide in.
Seeing her playing ostrich, Aaron stood up and walked in front of her, pinching her chin to force her to look at him, "Annie, you really are something else, aren't you? Where did that virtuous spirit from last night go? Did you regret it after thinking all night and come here today to give me a surprise?"
"Boss, I... don't understand what you mean."
Annie tried to explain, but seeing the lingerie on the desk felt like she could see the sinister smile of the person behind the w******p message, and she chose to deny it.
Just as Aaron was about to speak, there was a knock on the office door.
"Boss, a Baily is here to see you, saying he came to pick something up."
Kittie's voice gave Annie a moment's respite, but when she heard her mention Baily, her heart dropped.
Yes, she felt like she had been sold off like an object!
Aaron let go of the person in front of him, took out a tissue to wipe his hands, like he had just touched something filthy.
"Take him to the reception room and let him wait." After saying that, he glanced at the woman in front of him, "We'll deal with this when I get back."
Annie returned to her workstation. Her grievances were about to spill over, but surrounded by colleagues, she could only hold back her tears.
She knew she definitely wouldn't be able to keep this job. Instead of letting Aaron fire her, it would be more dignified to resign herself.
But she had been working at Hawthorne since graduation; where could she go now?
Thinking of this, Annie began to pack her things on the desk. Just as she was about to look for a box, she heard a flurry of chatter around her.
"Wasn't that person just now Mr. Baily? He's our executive secretary's husband."
"Yeah, Annie just came out of the president's office. Baily wouldn't be trying to leverage his connections for investments, would he?"
"Oh, I heard that Baily isn't really an ambitious person. Investing in him? That's like throwing money down the drain; it would be better to give us bonuses instead."
Annie certainly knew why her ex-husband was meeting with Aaron.
But what would those two say?
Thinking of this, her curiosity finally overcame her humiliation, and she picked up a document as a disguise and walked towards the door of the reception room.
What if Baily suddenly changed his mind and begged me to stay?
But when she reached the door and heard that familiar voice, the last glimmer of hope for her husband faded away.
"Aaron, isn't 100,000 a bit low for such a woman? In the six months of our marriage, I haven't touched her, and you've seen her figure, haven't you..."
Annie froze at the door, clutching the document tightly, feeling her heart break.
Did they see her as nothing more than a p********e?
Aaron crossed his legs and gave the man a knowing look, "Hmm... Baily has a point."
Baily's eyes revealed greed and a sense of triumph.
"However, I won't pay a dime more. If you're not satisfied, just take her away."
The light in Baily's eyes faded, replaced by a hint of danger, "Aaron, Annie is still my wife. If this gets out after you took her out for so long yesterday..."
"Baily, we live in a society governed by law. Everything requires evidence; making baseless accusations can lead to legal consequences."
Who was Aaron? Did he really seem like someone who could be threatened by something like this?
He took out a checkbook from his suit pocket, wrote down an amount, and signed his name with a flourish.
"Here's a check for 100,000. You can go to finance and collect the money now, but if you step out of this door, our transaction will be null and void."
As he said this, Aaron fiddled with the check in his hand, as if he might tear it up at any moment.
Baily felt a shiver run down his spine. This man really knew how to play the game. But he was now in a difficult position. Just thinking about Annie's disgraceful appearance last night...
He stood up, grabbed the check from Aaron's hand, glanced at the five zeros on it, and smirked. “Well then, Aaron, pleasure doing business with you!”
