Chapter 7 My Property

1218 Words
Annie stood at the door, listening to the conversation between the two, her heart felt like it had died, completely still. What was all this even for? "Annie, you're here! This document needs the president's confirmation right now, I'll leave it to you!" That statement hit her like a thunderclap from behind, and for someone who was eavesdropping, it was undoubtedly like a death knell. There was just a door between them, and she was still the party involved! As Annie glanced at Kittie in panic, the door to the reception room suddenly swung open. Turning around, a gloomy face that looked like it could drip water appeared before her. "Boss... there are a document... no, two documents that need your review..." Annie was caught off guard and could only stammer in an attempt to hide her confusion. Aaron looked at the flustered person and said, "Baily, this matter is settled, please take care of the follow-up work." After saying this, he turned and walked toward the president's office. Kittie followed him out, a slight curve appearing at the corner of her mouth. Baily looked at the person standing at the door in a daze, walked up to her, and shook the check in his hand, "A cheap woman really has a cheap life, worth only a few bucks." Annie looked up, her eyes cold and unfeeling, "Baily, what right do you have to say that to me?" Her contemptuous tone seemed to infuriate the man in front of her, a trace of ferocity flashed across Baily's face, and his hand was raised high. Annie had no time to dodge and could only close her eyes, but the expected pain never came, so she cautiously opened her eyes to look. Aaron, who had returned, caught Baily's hand in mid-air. "Baily, the deal has been made. Is this how you treat my property, without my consent?" Feeling the cold aura emanating from the man beside her, Baily withdrew his hand, straightened his clothes, leaned down to whisper in Annie's ear, "You wait for me." After that, he left in a huff. The word "property" echoed in Annie's ears, and she stood there in a daze, not paying attention to the harsh words Baily had left her with until a voice snapped her back to reality. "Come to my office, Annie." By the time she reacted, the person speaking had already walked away with big strides, and she could only jog to catch up. It wasn't just Annie who was taken aback by the word "property"; Kittie, standing not far away, covered her mouth in surprise. It seemed like she had learned something significant. …… As soon as she entered the president's office, Annie felt a wave of oppressive energy hit her, and the person behind the desk was propping his chin on his hand, casting a cold gaze at her. And the lingerie on the desk was still sitting there, impossible to ignore. "Tell me, what are you trying to do?" Annie felt a shiver run down her spine, just about to deny that it was her doing when she saw Aaron turn the computer screen toward her. On the screen, the image was frozen at the moment she took the lingerie out of her bag. Annie felt a chill run from her head to her toes, instinctively glancing toward the camera in the picture, but she saw nothing on the bookshelf. Does the boss really have a hobby of installing cameras in his own office? What kind of play is this? Aaron noticed her reaction and didn't explain her doubts, directly stating, "You'd better keep those dirty thoughts to yourself; I don’t want to see this a second time." Dirty thoughts? Does Aaron think she is seducing him? At this point, the only way to prove her innocence was to resign! Although she did indeed do this, how could she explain this? Tell him someone forced her to do it? No one would believe that, let alone Aaron. "Boss, I want to resign…" Before she could finish her sentence, Aaron interrupted her, "There's a last-minute cocktail party tonight; go prepare for it." With that, he lowered his head to handle the documents. Annie was momentarily stunned, just about to finish her unfinished words when Aaron pulled out a note and slapped it on the table. She leaned in to take a look. "Today, Annie is sold to Aaron of the Hawthorne, for a total payment of one hundred thousand yuan, payment settled. Payee: Baily." Written clearly in black and white, Annie finally realized that she had become the property of the man in front of her. Aaron looked up, seeing Annie still standing there in a daze, his brows slightly furrowing, "What are you still doing there? Did I not make myself clear?" "But…" "There's no 'but,' hurry up and prepare. If you delay tonight's drinks party, what you owe me will be a lot more than this." Saying this, Aaron pointed at the receipt on the table, then went back to his paperwork, ignoring her further. Annie wanted to say something more, but feeling the dangerous vibe of the man in front of her, she backed down. The dumbest thing you can do is poke a bear that's already angry! After Annie left, Aaron looked at the closed door, a flicker of conflict in his eyes. He had heard Baily's whisper in Annie's ear when he left; he couldn’t let this woman have any mishaps. 'No, what was he thinking? He didn’t give a damn about her life; she was just his property. What's wrong with a businessman looking after his own stuff? Although a hundred thousand is just a drop in the bucket, he had already spent the money, so there was no reason to let others waste it.' 'Right, that's correct!' Just as Aaron was self-comforting, when Annie got back to her desk, she sensed a different vibe in the office. Everyone shot her weird looks when she walked in—some with jealousy, some with disgust, some in confusion... Annie felt all mixed up and didn't pay much attention to it; she was still trying to process what had just happened. After a while, a document was slammed onto her desk with a loud smack. Annie looked up and met a disgusted gaze. "Here's the guest list for tonight’s drinks party; the boss asked me to give it to you." After saying this, Kittie left without looking back. Annie was totally confused, realizing the surrounding vibe was off. Had the incident with the lingerie spread? That’s impossible! Even though she was anxious, she didn’t want to ask; everyone has their pride, right? As she flipped through the guest list for the drinks party, Annie spotted a surprising name. Lester. This guy's family, the Whitmore, is just as big as the Hawthorne around here, and the two companies overlap in some business areas, which means they're not exactly going to get along. Moreover, Lester was quite the anomaly in the business world, rarely attending similar commercial events, yet he's pulled in a lot of partners thanks to his solid skills. As Aaron's executive secretary, Annie was somewhat aware of these matters, so did this person have some purpose for attending the drinks party this time?
