Episode 5: From Confusion to Connection

During Aida's journey to the dormitory, everyone introduced themselves and began introducing themselves in Korean, except for Aida, who hadn't realized she would have to speak Korean yet. So, she took the opportunity to introduce herself in Korean. After arriving at the dormitory, it was time to go to the administration office to report. There were already four officers there: two men and two women who would greet the new students who would be staying in the dormitory. Aida arrived before them.

Aida: Hi, my name is Aida. I'm from Italy. I just arrived in Busan at 4:00. I'm a GKS student in 2023.

Officer: Can you speak Korean? (saying in Korean).

With a confused expression, Aida answered in English.

Aida: I don't understand what you're saying. Could you explain it in English?

At that moment, one of Aida's friends who came with Aida knew Korean, and she began to notice that Aida was having difficulty, clearly visible on Aida's face, and a Myanmar girl approached and asked Aida in English.

Myanmar girl: Do you need any help? I can help you.

Aida: Thank God, you're so kind to offer it to me. I wanted to tell them I needed to get the English form. Also, please help me with any questions from them. Please tell me so I can take care of it with you. It's a good thing you're here.

Myanmar girl: Calm down, I'll help you through. We're friends, right?

Aida: Yes, we're friends, hehehhee… Thank you for helping me.

Later, Aida was helped by the Myanmar girl, from filling out the dormitory form, getting a bedsheet, getting a trolley, and receiving her room card.

The admin officer : Please say to your friend, don't forget to go to the cafeteria on Monday morning to report yourself as a new GKS member to get your meal card. The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and please arrive there at the stated time.

When she had listened to what the admin officer had said to her, the next thing the Myanmar girl had to do was translate it into English to her, exactly as she said. After everything was completed in the admin room, the two of them walked together with their trolleys to their rooms. Luckily, they were on the same floor. When they reached the 6th floor, they each found their own room. It turns out they are neighbors. Aida got room number 669 and the Myanmar girl got 671. After that, they both said goodbye to each other.
