Chapter 2

1514 Words
Nelly POV I woke up that morning, waiting for it to finally come and ruin my life. Then the door was kicked open. "Get up!," Mom shouted. Her voice was loud and her eyes were full of anger. I sat up quickly. "Mom..." "Don't call me that today." She said, as she crossed her arms. "Pack your things and get prepared. Now!." My heart skipped, fiaaa!. "Pack for what mom?" "For your wedding, Nelly. Are you telling me that you have forgotten what today is?" She asked and then threw a small bag at my feet. I looked at her and then at the bag she threw at my feet. Tears filled my eyes, as I wondered what my mom stood to gain for pushing me into that fire. But I held my tears back. And I summoned courage to challenge her decision. "Mom," I am not going anywhere,”I'm not going into this marriage.” I said. “What did you just say now, Nelly?" She asked. My eyes widened in shock, because I had never for once challenged her words. "I said I'm not going anywhere Mom." My whole body was shaking, but I tried to stay brave. "I will not pack anything, because I am not going to marry a man that I do not know. A man from a pack that hates our people to the core." Why are you doing this to me mom? Why do you hate me this much? Then the room went silent. But before I knew it, a heavy slap landed on my cheek, and I even hit my head against the wall. My ears made a loud ringing sound. For a moment, I could not hear anything, only that sound in my head. "Will you pack now or you want to receive more slap?," Mom asked?, her voice shaking. Tears filled my eyes. I didn't know what to do or say again. I picked the bag, with one hand and the other of my hand still resting on my cheek. My hands were still shaking as I packed my few dresses. My sewing tools. The small wooden box that held everything I owned. Tears fell onto my clothes as I folded them, but I tried to calm myself down knowing that I could not fight her. When I finished, I walked into the bathroom, and took my bath. As I finished I stepped out, I dressed up, getting ready. When I heard the sound of a car engine outside. The council guards were already here. I reached the doorway and stopped. I stood there as every part of me felt so weak to move. "Nelly! They are waiting." Rose's voice came from behind me. Cold. I turned and looked at her one more time hoping that she would change her mind. That she would eventually say no to those guards. That she would fight for me like a real mother should. But she did not. "Let go," And make sure you don't embarrass me there." She said.” I walked out slowly. My legs could barely carry me. One of the guards stood by the car, with arms crossed, and with a long face. When I got to the car, my whole body went stiff. My mom has already jumped into the car. "I am not going anywhere," I told the guards. In a tiny voice. “Nelly enter this car!,” my mom shouted. And immediately one of the guards grabbed me with his big hand and shoved me inside the car. "I am finally riding into hell." I muttered. The distance to the council hall was much farther than I had expected. When we got there, the hall was already full. Elders sat in rows on both sides. Their faces looked so mean. My mom Rose, walked in first, with head held so high, like she was proud of what she was doing to her own daughter. I walked past her and sat where they had told me to sit. We waited for some minutes before the door slammed open again. Two men walked in first before the other two that I believed to be their wolf warriors. One was older, was tall, with a hard face and eyes that looked like one who had seen too many awful things. The other one… He was young, tall, charming, with a clean jawline and looked so agile. My breath changed. As he stepped in, his eyes moved around the hall, and then finally landed on me. Something moved inside my heart. It pulled through my heart like a magnetic force. I couldn't understand the strange feelings. But I quickly shunned it. I wondered if I had seen such a face somewhere in my life before the wedding. Then the old one rose to his feet and greeted the council before he asked. "Please why are we here today?" He asked. The sound of his husky voice filled the entire hall. "Nobody briefed us about the agenda of this meeting and why my son's presence was even requested. He said and then sat down. Then one Elderly man named Eke, who I believed was the council leader, stood up slowly. "You are right, Alpha Stone. You were not briefed about the agenda of this meeting, and on behalf of the council I apologize for that. "Apology accepted”. So can you now tell us why we are here please?" He asked again. Elder Eke jammed his palms together. The hall went quiet and silent. Like a grave yard. "The council has made a decision," he said. "Your son, J.J., Alpha of Lion Heart, will marry Nelly Mac of Braze Rock." Everywhere went still for a few seconds, before it exploded. Stone Jonas jumped on his feet. "Alpha Eke what did I just hear you say? Has the council gone nuts? He asked with a cruel voice. “Watch your mouth, Elder Eke said. “You called us here only to tell us this crap? To tell me that my son here, J.J, my heir will marry someone from Braze Rock? Our enemy?" Please what sort of Joke is this?. Why not just tell me that you want to plant a spy in my pack. He said. The sound of his voice almost shakes the hall. Then J.J. stood up. He did not shout like his father, but his voice was low and cold. It scared me even more than his father does. "I swear with my mother’s grave,"I will never marry anyone from Braze Rock.” Not now. Not tomorrow."He said, and his eyes jammed with mine. My whole body went frozen, under his stare. “This was the man they wanted me to marry. Something dangerous.” I whispered to myself. Elder Eke did not sit, shaked nor even blinked. He stood there calm, but firm. Like he already knew where this would end. Then Alpha Stone and his son were almost ready to walk out of the hall. When Elder Eke's voice came through again. "Alpha Stone. Alpha J.J." His voice was quiet, but it filled the room like thunder. "Before you walk out that door, consider the consequences of you and your son’s refusal for this union." Stone Jonas turned back. His face filled with anger. "Is that supposed to be a threat?" "Well you can call it anything." Eke looked from father to son, slow and steady. "You better accept this marriage now, and stop what is coming, or reject it at your own risk." The hall went dead silent that even the air felt still. J.J. smirked. "What is it that is coming, old man?" He stepped closer to the table, jaw tight, eyes narrow." Say it and stop hiding behind riddles." Elder Eke kept silent. He only watched J.J., like he did not really understand what he was doing. J.J looked around the hall, at every elder, at My Mom and myself. "Since you people love playing games, "Fine, you can bring it on. I don't really care. You can all do your worst.” J.J. said, his voice dropping even lower. “Lets go son”. His father said and then tapped him on the shoulder. They turned and walked out of the door, with their two wolf warriors matching behind them, the sound of their booths, hitting hard against the tiles. “Don't say you were forewarned. It’s only a stubborn house fly that follows the corpse to the grave, Alpha Stone”. Elder Eke warned lastly. "Let the council do their worst," Stone Jonas said, for the last time before they finally stepped out of the hall. The doors slammed shut behind them. In the heavy silence, I looked down at my shaking hands. A cold feeling ran through my whole body. And Elder Eke's warning still hung in the air, heavy and cold, like a promise nobody wanted to believe was true. Something terrible was coming. And none of us, not even J.J., or his father, knew what it was..
