Blood oath

I waited, while she watched me, I couldn't tell while she was looking at me with so much concentration. "Yo-you are Maeve?" Her eyes widened with some sort of realization. "Yes, how do you know that?" I had to ask because I was sure I never spoke to anyone while I was in this cell. "H-how?" She looked so confused seeing me. Like a million memories were running through her head, I didn't have time for all of these. "I need your help" I asked, my eyes pleading urgently with her. "What can I probably do for you in this cell?" She asked, her face going back to normal but I couldn't help but notice the familial look in her eyes. "My powers... I need to uhm, it was locked" I couldn't help but blabber the words to her. "The powers locked within you by your parents?" She asked, her head bent as if to examine me. I was shocked by how she must have discovered that. "My dear, There's no need to try and figure out how I know anything, I know many things going on in our world" I nodded slowly, clearly not getting what she meant but I wasn't really interested either. "So Maeve, you want to unlock your witch abilities?" The woman whispered as she too stepped closer. I nodded, not hiding how much I want that to happen. "I can feel them inside of me, locked and restrained" She smiled, baring her rotten scanty teeth at me. "Do you know why it was locked in the first place?" "My parents... They wanted to protect me, because I couldn't control my powers" "So what makes you think you can control them now?" She was smirking at me or was it my imagination? "I'm older now, and desperate... I believe I can, you just need to help me unlock it" "Unlock it?... What would I gain by helping you achieve that?" My eyes narrowed at her, for an old witch she was sure very smart. I wondered for a while. What could I possibly offer her? "Freedom?" I tested, not sure I was mentioning the right thing. Surely, someone who look like she has been locked up for years now would desperately seek freedom right? When she burst into a fit of annoying laughter, something told me it wasn't what she was seeking. "Girl, why would you think you can give me freedom? Do you know how I was locked here or by any means do you think the only thing holding me here is the pair of chains on the door?" She asked with genuine amusement. That's true, why didn't I think about the fact that if she was powerful enough to unlock my abilities she would have escaped this cell just like I would have years ago if I had my powers. I took a deep breath, "Let's hear what you would like" She went quiet for about a minute before something sinister crossed her face but with just a blink it was gone. I almost believed it was just my on head but I knew deep inside it wasn't "The current king... Kill him!" There was a hitch in my breath, I swallow and for one long minute I forgot to breath. "I thought that was what you wanted too, isn't that why you want your powers unlocked?" Her head was c****d to he side as if trying to read me. I quickly gained control of myself, remaining expressionless. Right? Isn't that what I wanted, isn't that why I made all of this efforts?. I cleared my throat, "it is, I was just wondering why you want him dead" It was my turn to try figuring her out. But she only shrugged, "Isn't he the reason us witches are facing lots of hardships and why I can't leave this disgusting place?" From the look in her eyes I knew she was telling the truth but it wasn't time for me to be curious. "Deal, so can you unlock it?" "Ha, you think words will be the end of it? We will take a blood oath to seal it" Once again I swallowed, I knew what it meant to take a blood oath. It was a deadly game. My need to gain my abilities overcame my sanity, so I took a knife and sliced through my palm, giving the knife to her to do the same while blood dripped from my palm. "So...?" I waited for her to proceed with unlocking my powers. "Don't you feel it?" She smiled knowingly. "Feel what?" I asked but at that moment I felt the veins on my wrist begin to surge, turning black. It felt like my blood stream was out on fire, I howled in agony, my eyes turning red. "W-what did you do to me?" I asked, crouching down in pain.
