Hugo’s reflection pt 1

1464 Words
With Hugo and Elliot finally arriving in California, they were both anxious to begin planning to find Adela and Brandon. There was so much to do. Elliot took Hugo back to his house and they began packing his things but it’d take at least a week to make preparations to send his stuff to Louisiana. “It’ll be like a mini vacation for you Hugo” Elliot chuckled at the unpleasant face Hugo had. “I guess I can rest a little but I don’t like California at all. Your space is small but your furniture makes things feel homey. Your furniture is very much something Ad…” he didn’t want to finish his sentence, he would’ve shown Elliot that he knew Adela. “Can you just fold clothes and pack them into suitcases? You know what just throw them in there. I have to go talk to my boss and explain to him that I’m leaving the state” Hugo opened a door to a small closet and started taking clothing off of hangers and folding them into suitcases. “There’s too much stuff. I’m going to have to go get boxes” he sighed to himself. Glancing around the room he came across a framed photo of Elliot, Adela and Brandon when they were younger. It was Hugo who took the picture. Remembering the day of the picture sent his mind back in time to before he even married margrette. Although he wanted to regret ever meeting her, he couldn’t because he had loved his wife more than anything and still loved her for bringing Adela and Brandon into this world…. “Ash??” Margrette called out from the back bedroom. Ash came running when he heard his pregnant wife call out to him. “Ash I think my water broke! We need to go to the hospital” he couldn’t help feel excited because this meant soon Adela would be born “Okay! Let’s go. Oh my Gods, I’m so excited Mar” Margrette was not excited, she was afraid of the pain and knew her insides were about to be ruined by pushing out a bowling ball. Margrette was brave and strong and delivered Adela gracefully “Ash, is she okay” panting as she looked over at Ash’s direction. “Yes Mar, she’s healthy and beautiful” Margrette could see him crying and could hear Adela crying. “Well bring her over here. I want to hold her too” to Margrette she really was the perfect baby. Beautiful big brown eyes and of course a full head of hair. “This is what gave me heartburn for seven months” she and Ash chuckled. Just then Elder Victor opened the door “oh, so you’ve given birth already. Good. May I come in?” It was no secret that the Elder did not like Margrette. She was a former hunter and he did not trust hunters. Ash did his best to persuade his fathers thinking. It wasn’t until Ash and Margrette told him that she was pregnant did he soften a little. “Ash, both Jessie and Hugh are here go tell them the news, I want to talk to Margrette and greet my grandchild” Ash felt uneasy but knew his father wouldn’t hurt Margrette, not with Adela alive now. “Margrette, both Ash and my wife have helped me view things a little differently now. I think its time for change and cooperation it’s ex-hunters. You mean a lot to Ash and with Adela, now you have a tether to me too. From now on you have the protection of the HighCourt” Elder Victor went to go pick up Adela, just as the three friends came into the room. “Everything okay, Mar?” Ash asked and she just nodded her head with a soft smile. Ash and Margrette’s married life seemed to fly by and soon Brandon was born. Not long after the birth of Brandon did Ash’s mother die. The Hunter’s Association took out a wolf pack’s den and his mother just happened to be in the cross fire. “Mar, they have to grow up without their grandmother. How can I grieve when they will never get to meet her properly?” Ash sobbed for the loss of his mother. It was as if a piece of him had left. Not only did the attack on the wolf’s den rob Ash of his mother, but the attack robbed Jessie of his brother too. The Elder and Ash had to put aside their grief and help Jessie try to get some of his family back. “Ash, Hugh is still alive. He’s trying to find Sheila and Elliot. Daniel is dead and so is the Luna” Jessie then explains that because Daniel became an Alpha, that made him a threat to the Hunter’s Association. It was up to Jessie and Ash to help Hugh find Sheila and Elliot. “How old is Elliot now? He’s Adela’s age right? Maybe I can convince my father to bring Sheila and him here” Ash started sharing his thoughts with Jessie and Hugh. “That could work” is all Hugh could muster. He was afraid for Sheila and Elliot. Elliot was only seven and probably confused to what was happening. “I’m sorry you lost your friend, Hugh” Hugh smiled through tears “Daniel and your mother died trying to protect Elliot. We are indebted to you” everyone fell silent. They just focused on their rescue mission. It took them two months to find Sheila and Elliot. She had hidden them both deep in the woods for fear the Hunter’s would find them.  It wasn’t easy convincing her to come with them. She had just gone through a traumatic event and lost everything. Elliot was scared and confused as to why he couldn’t see his father anymore. If Ash knew not to spend so much time getting Sheila and Elliot acclimated with living on their own in Georgia and noticed his wife’s displeasure. Maybe things would’ve turned out differently. The first clue would’ve been when Margrette refused to attend Hugh and Sheila’s wedding. To hunters, Werewolves were bottom barrel feeders. This thinking made Ash fight with her constantly. He hadn’t known her prejudice to werewolves and it upset him that she had a prejudice to someone close to them for years. How could she see the way Jessie took care of Adela and Brandon and look down on him. Ash was torn between regret and love. He never knew Margrette could’ve been so calculative and hateful. When the life insurance money was distributed into Ash’s childrens’ bank accounts, his wife turned her life to greed. If she killed Ash, she would be the sole proprietor over Adela’s and Brandon’s bank accounts. What better way to take him and the werewolves out at the same time? Margrette waited until Ash and Hugh planned a dinner party. She was going to set fire to the house and trap them inside so they could die. “Hugh, Mar has been acting strange. We fight constantly. I’m wondering if I should just call it quits. You should see the way she looks at me sometimes” Ash shuddered. “I don’t know what you see in her. You do know she’s trained to kill and out of all the Supernatural she’s killed, you could’ve easily been one of the creatures beneath the barrel of her gun” Ash shook his head. He firmly believed Margrette loved him and their life together. “Hu..” just as Ash was going to respond the fire alarm set off “What the f**k is going on?” Ash yelled “Sheila?!” Hugh called out to his wife but got no response. He went to try the handle for the door but it was too hot “Ash, are we trapped? Can you do something about this?” He started to panic. Ash tried to teleport them outside but his energy wouldn’t let him. He felt weak. “Hugh, I cant get us out of here. Try to call 911” just then there was an explosion in the kitchen next to them. Outside, Margrette sat in a black car with heavily tinted windows. Hearing the explosion she sped off. Someone in the neighborhood called the fire department, and paramedics found the bodies of Sheila and Hugh and then found a badly burned Ash. He was unrecognizable, covered in bandages from the top of his head to his feet. He was in pain both physically and mentally. Who would try to kill him? Did his best friend make it out like he did? Was Sheila okay? He was unable to cope with his reality, but it wasn’t until jessie showed up did things become more clear. He put into perspective of what Margrette achieved and Ash was seething in anger. He wanted revenge. He wanted her death. Ash wanted to make her pay for everything she did and all of he manipulation she put him through.
