(Jousett) Sometime during the night, I fell asleep. When I woke up I felt tired. I could barely sleep at all night thinking about Mr. Kyle, not to mention that my senses seemed to be heightened more to the point where I caught that scent that I didn’t know. It was around four in the morning when the unknown scent left. I got up and took a shower. I washed my body and rinsed before turning off the shower. I towel dried myself and walked to my room. I put on a thong and a bra, then I wore low rise skinny jeans, a black and purple top and black and purple Jordans. I put my hair in two French braids. I then grabbed my backpack and walked to school as I listened to my air pods. I got to school and went to the cafeteria; I grabbed a tray and grabbed some breakfast when I caught Kyle’s scent. I turned my head just in time to see him walk in. He sniffed the air and his head snapped towards me. He looked like he didn’t sleep much either. “That will be two dollars and fifty cents,” the lunch lady said. I looked at her a bit confused. "Huh?" I asked, then remembered I was getting breakfast. I took out the money and paid for it before walking to an empty table. Kyle follows me to the table. “Hey, how are you feeling?” he asked. “I’m good. A little bit tired. I could barely sleep last night,” I admitted. “Why?” he asked, looking concerned. “I don’t know,” I lied. I was not going to tell him that I had been thinking about him all night or about the unknown scent. He would probably look at me like I’m crazy and run the other way. He looked at me with a knowing look and I swear I felt like he knew that I was thinking about him. The tips of my ears turned red and he smirked. “How are you?” I asked and added, “You look tired.” He chuckled lowly and nodded his head. “Yes, I’m fine. I just… I had to write out some stuff for the school,” he said, then leaned closer and actually sniffed me making me arch an eyebrow. “Did you change your perfume?” he asked. “No, why?” I asked. He sniffed me again, and I couldn't help but also sniff myself in case I stunk, making him chuckle again. “It’s nothing. You just smell really good. Even more than yesterday,” he said, and I couldn’t help but blush. He cleared his throat before looking away. “Did you eat?” I asked him. Everything in me wanted to make sure that he was okay. I needed to make sure that he ate breakfast, but why? I have no idea, but I needed to know. “Yes, I did, but I could use some coffee,” he said. I grabbed the coffee I had mixed with hot chocolate, which I call chocolate coffee. “It’s a mix of hot chocolate and coffee,” I said, and handed it to him. "Trust me, it will wake you up," I assured him. He gently took the coffee and smiled. He reached into his pocket as if to pay me, but I shook my head. Mr. Kyle’s friend and assistant, Mr. Asher, walked in and whispered something, making Mr. Kyle nod. “I’ll see you in class, Jousett,” Mr. Kyle said, and I nodded. I sat down and began to eat my breakfast. Halfway through my food, the bell rang. I waited until the cafeteria was a bit more empty before I then threw out my trash and headed to my first period class. The day passed by quickly. I’m currently at lunch and the other students in the school and even the teachers have all been staring at me all day and I can’t help but wonder why. They are all careful not to speak around me or anywhere near me. I sit at a table alone eating my food. I could feel eyes on me. I looked up, and some students looked away, and I rolled my eyes and continued eating. I took a deep breath as I tried to listen to what they were saying, but I couldn’t seem to concentrate on one person. I get up and throw my trash out and begin to walk out, students parting as I walk. The bell rings and I go to the rest of my classes. I sit in the back of my two classes as students look at me and whispered. When I got to physical education class (gym), I was a bit on edge. I walked in and Mr. Kyle’s head turned towards me. I walked towards the area where I needed to sit. I don’t know if he saw something in my eyes, or maybe he'd heard what was going around, but the moment he came close to me, I couldn’t help but relax. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked, worried laced his voice. “Just… adjusting still,” I said. It wasn’t a full lie. He nods and goes to stand up, but I grab his hand feeling the small electric sparks and I relax even more. He looks at my hand, then at me. “Have you heard about... what the students are whispering about?” I asked. “No, I haven’t. What are they saying?” he asked and I sighed. “I don’t know. They look at me weirdly and whisper as they look at me. But they are making sure not to say anything around me,” I said lowly. He squats down in front of me. He looks at me for a few seconds. “Don’t let people like that get to you. You’re new here and that’s probably why they are acting like that. They are just being teenagers and ignorant,” he said, quickly touching my chin and I nodded. I let go of his hand and he stands. After stretching, we head outside to play some soccer. I didn’t feel like playing soccer though. Instead, I asked Mr. Kyle if I could just run around the field, which he agreed to. As I ran my third lap, I felt like I was being watched and that smell from last night came back. I stopped running and looked around. I noticed some of the students were looking at me, but it wasn’t them. The way I felt like I was being looked at wasn’t like the students were looking at me. This felt… different. Predatory. A hand landed on my shoulder, making me jump. I turned to see Mr. Kyle. I felt my heart skip a beat as he got closer. He moved his hand from my shoulder. “Is everything okay?” he asks, looking to where I was looking at before looking back at me. “Y-yes” I lied and added, “I thought…” I looked towards the woods again. “I thought I smelled something.” “What did you smell?” he asked. “It smelled like… I don’t know… maybe like iron, something... a little sweet" I licked my lips. "But also like something’s dead... something rotten,” I said truthfully. He looked at where I was looking again as he placed a hand on my shoulder again. “Go ahead and go back to the rest of the class,” he said, and I nodded before heading back. I looked behind my shoulder before joining the others just as the bell rang signaling the end of class. I looked back at Mr. Kyle to see him and Mr. Asher talked to a few people. I went inside and changed out of my gym clothes before heading to my last class. ***
