They journeyed straight through the night without stopping. The plains had melted away into a sandy desert, and the night was surprisingly cold. However, as the sun rose the following morning, the desert quickly heated up, beating down on them both. Leonidas’ fur felt hot in the sun beneath her fingertips, and Brooke could hear his wolf panting hard. He had slowed his pace to a steady trot after running all through the night. She was exhausted, so she could only imagine how much worse Leonidas felt. Small, spindly plants dotted the landscape, so they were slowed by having to weave in and out of cacti and succulent-type plants. Brooke kept checking behind them to see if Hades’ army had caught up to them, since they would most certainly be seen in this flat landscape from far distances. S
