(Eren's pov)
I step out of the car and take a deep breath. It's been a year since I last visited my parents, and I'm nervous about seeing them again. I walk up to the front door and ring the bell. My mom answers, and her face lights up when she sees me.
"Eren, my baby, you're finally home!" she exclaims, pulling me into a tight hug.
"I missed you too, Mom," I reply, smiling despite my nerves.
As we sit down to dinner, my parents offer their condolences about Noah's passing. It's a strange feeling, hearing them talk about my love life when they never seemed to approve of my being gay before.
"I'm sorry for your loss," my dad says, looking down at his plate. "No parent should have to bury their child."
"Thanks, Dad," I replied quietly. "I know you never really understood my relationship with Noah, but he was the love of my life."
My parents nod solemnly, and we eat in silence for a few minutes. I can feel the tension in the air, and I know there's something else on their minds.
"We just want to be there for you, Eren," my dad says, looking at me with a serious expression.
I nod, trying to focus on my food instead of their words. But as the night wears on, I can't help but overhear my parents arguing in the next room."I don't understand why we have to keep fighting for this property," my mom says, her voice low but angry. "Can't we just let it go?"
"You don't understand," my dad replies, his voice raised. "I've been waiting for this property for over 20 years. I can't just give up on it now."
I can hear the frustration in his voice, and I feel a pang of sympathy for him. But at the same time, I can't help but wonder why this property is so important to him.
As the argument continues, I slip out of my room and sneak closer to their door, trying to hear more of their conversation.
"We're running out of time," my dad says, his voice desperate. "We only have six months left before we lose it."
"I know," my mom replies, her tone softer now. "But we can't keep putting all our eggs in one basket. What if this doesn't work out?"
I hear my dad sigh, and for a moment there's silence. Then, he speaks again.
"I just need you to trust me," he says. "I promise, I know what I'm doing."
I can hear the uncertainty in my mom's voice as she replies, but I don't hear any more of their conversation. As I head back to my room, I can't help but feel like there's something more going on here than just a property dispute. But for now, all I can do is wait and see what happens.
(Next day)
I had made up my mind - I was going to take admission in the same academy as Finn, the man I suspected of murdering my love, Noah. I wanted to get close to him, to find out the truth and get my revenge.
As I walked through the gates of the academy, I felt a sense of unease. It was as if the walls were closing in on me, suffocating me. But I pushed those thoughts aside and walked towards the admissions office.
After filling out the necessary paperwork, I was given a tour of the academy. The buildings were old, the walls covered in ivy, and the air was thick with the scent of books. It was the perfect place to hide secrets.
I was assigned to a classroom on the second floor, and as I walked up the stairs, my heart began to race. I was going to be in the same room as Finn.
I took a deep breath and opened the door to the classroom. The students all turned to look at me, and I felt a wave of nervousness wash over me. But I forced myself to stay calm and walked towards the teacher's desk.
And that's where my story began…
"Good morning, class," the teacher said, smiling at us. "Today we have a new student joining us. Please introduce yourself."
I step forward, feeling the eyes of the class on me. "Hi, my name is..." I pause for a moment, debating whether or not to give my real name. In the end, I decided it's better to stay anonymous. "...Max," I finished.
The teacher nodded and gestured for me to take a seat. "You can sit beside Finn," she says.
My heart skips a beat as I make my way to the seat beside him. This is it. This is my chance to get revenge on the man I suspect of killing my love, Noah.
But Finn has other ideas. "I don't like people sitting beside me," he says, glaring at me.
The teacher argued with him, saying, "Finn, you need to learn to be more accommodating to your classmates. The world doesn't revolve around you."
"No way," Finn said.
The teacher sighs. "Finn, please give up your seat for Max."
Finn scowls but reluctantly moves over. I take my seat, feeling triumphant.
But the victory is short-lived. Finn turns to me, his face twisted in anger. "Make sure to find yourself a new seat," he snarls.
I can feel the rage building inside of me. "You don't own this seat," I snapped back. "And you know what? I could buy you and sell you in the market."
We argue back and forth, our voices rising until the teacher interrupts us. "That's enough," she says sternly. "Both of you will meet with the principal after class."
I smirk to myself. This is only the beginning.
(At lunchtime)
As Finn and I walked to the cafeteria together, he turned to me and asked, "Why are you always following me around?"
"I'm not following you around," I replied defensively. "We just happen to have the same classes and we're roommates. It's not like I have a choice."
Finn rolled his eyes. "Whatever. It's not like we have to talk to each other all the time."
I raised an eyebrow. "Believe me, I don't enjoy arguing with you either. But it seems like you're always looking for a fight."
Finn stopped walking and turned to face me. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I mean, you always have some snarky comments or sarcastic remarks. It's like you're trying to prove something."
Finn scoffed. "I don't have to prove anything to you."
"I didn't say you did," I said calmly. "I just don't see why we can't get along. It's exhausting to argue all the time."
Finn looked away, his expression softening slightly. "I guess... I just don't really know how to talk to you. We come from different worlds, you know?"
"I know," I agreed. "But that doesn't mean we can't be civil to each other."
Finn nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Sorry for always being a jerk to you."
"It's fine," I said with a shrug. "Apology accepted. Let's try to start fresh, okay?"
Finn gave me a small smile. "Yeah, let's do that."
'' It's just the beginning , Finn. You will regret it soon'' I mumbled. "Did you say something?" He asked in confusion. "Nothing, ok see you later" I said as I gave him my smirk look.
Things only escalated from there. I ended up becoming Finn's roommate, thanks to the principal who was quite greedy.
Finn entered his room and found me unpacking my things.
Finn said sarcastically, "ohhh , So you are the one who drove my friend away just so you could become my roommate". He crossed his arms.
I replied, "No, Finn. Your friend left because he wanted to. But I guess it's easier for you to blame me."
Finn rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Don't act so innocently. You clearly have some sort of agenda, and I don't appreciate it."
I shot back, "You're damn right I have an agenda.
Finn shook his head in disbelief. "I don't even know why the principal put us together as roommates. This is going to be a nightmare."
I rolled my eyes. "Believe me, I'm not thrilled about it either. But I'm not going to let you intimidate me. I'm here to get an education, and I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen."
Finn snorted. "You're not going to last a week in this academy. You're too weak."
I clenched my fists. "Don't underestimate me, Finn. I'm stronger than you think."
And with that, our argument ended. But I knew that this was only the beginning. I had a feeling that Finn and I were going to be at each other's throats for a long time. But I was determined to get my revenge and find out the truth about Noah's death, no matter what it took.
(At night)
Finn had been playing loud music in our room, despite my repeated requests to turn it down. I was trying to study for an important exam, and the noise was really distracting me.
Finally, I snapped and yelled at him to turn it off. Finn just scoffed and said, "Why don't you just go study somewhere else? This is my room too, you know."
I glared at him. "I shouldn't have to leave my own room just because you can't be considerate of other people."
Finn rolled his eyes. "Whatever, man. You're just too uptight."
That was the last straw for me. "You know what, Finn? You're the most selfish person I've ever met. All you care about is yourself and your own pleasure. You don't care who you hurt in the process."
Finn's face turned red with anger. "You don't know anything about me, so don't you dare make assumptions like that."
We continued to argue back and forth, each of us throwing insults at the other. It wasn't until our RA came in and threatened to write us up that we finally calmed down.
(Next day at PT class)
During one of our PT sessions, we were divided into two teams for a relay race. I was on one team and Finn was on the other. As the race started, I noticed that Finn was intentionally trying to trip me up and slow me down.
I managed to stay on my feet, but I was fuming. When the race was over, I confronted him about it.
"What's your problem, Finn?" I demanded. "Why are you always trying to mess with me?"
Finn just shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about. I was just trying to win."
I scoffed. "Yeah, right. You were trying to sabotage me, just like you always do."
Finn's face twisted with anger. "You're such a drama queen, Max. You think everything is about you. Get over yourself."
That only made me angrier. "You're the one who needs to get over yourself, Finn. You can't stand it when someone else does better than you. You're so obsessed with winning that you don't even care who you hurt along the way."
The argument continued for a few more minutes, until our PT instructor intervened and told us to knock it off. But the damage had already been done. Our already rocky relationship had taken yet another hit, and it seemed like we were just destined to keep clashing with each other.
One night, someone called Finn, and when I asked who it was, he replied, "It's not your business." I knew I had to chase him to collect some proof about Noah's death, so I followed him without his awareness. But when he walked down a dark street, he vanished, and suddenly, someone hit me on the head.
When I woke up, I found myself in a dark room, tied up to a chair. Someone with a mask on his face stood before me, with a cold look in his eyes. "You are Finn, am I right?" I asked
"Yes, I am," Finn said with a foul laugh.
"You shouldn't have followed me, Eren," Finn said, "Now you're in trouble."
"What did you do to me?" I asked, my heart pounding with fear.
"I had to knock you out because you're becoming a nuisance," he replied, "You're always snooping around, and it's getting on my nerves."
"What are you hiding, Finn?" I asked, struggling to free myself from the ropes.
Finn chuckled, "You're too smart for your own good, Eren. But I'm afraid you won't be able to find out what I'm hiding. You'll be here for a while."
With that, Finn left the room, and I was left alone, scared and uncertain of what was going to happen next.
