As the days evolved, Kani entered into third standard. Also, he got shifted from his annex building to the main building of the school. The beauty of the main school can’t be expressed in words. It would be as if we were entering into a dark forest, full of green sceneries, trees, hanging gardens, and greens everywhere. It would take a travel journey of about 15 minutes to reach the main school from the annex. Those travels were one of the most memorable experiences that had ever happened in his life, before.
During his third standard, Kani had a lady teacher. She was quite stout and she handled them English subject. One day, she taught a poem titled, ‘The Gorilla’ in the class. In the meantime, there came the following line in the poem, ‘the gorilla gobbled the jellies’ and she pretended the action like how it would have gobbled the jellies in that scenario. But only for Kani, she seemed to be looking like the same gorilla repeating the action on reality-basis. Kani thought that to himself but he never let that out. He always remembered that incident in his life.
Also, there was a class leader who was elected by the students of the class and people call him by the name, 'Prefect'. All students were supposed to talk only in English at that time and even if we utter a single word in the Tamil language, the Prefect has the right to tie a red badge on the concerned person and he will be fined with an amount worth Rs. 5. Also, that student has to wear the batch for a whole day. It would be like a sin for anyone who gets the red badge as a punishment for speaking in Tamil. Kani had a bad time one-day, as he was asked to wear the red badge by the Prefect of the class by suspecting him for speaking in Tamil. Though he didn't do that he accepted it with no other options left with him.
During that time, every morning, they used to have an assembly, at their school auditorium, for prayer. Right from the third standard to twelfth standard, all students get assembled in the auditorium. They had a practice of moving in three lines with class Prefects standing, one at the front and the other at the back. They used to come by march past and get assembled in their respective positions, inside the auditorium. Till the class twelve students would come inside the auditorium, the band boys used to put the band music in a well-organized manner. The way that the class twelve students enter into the auditorium with their majestic blue colored blazers would always be a treat for watching! The color of the blazer would be so cool and attractive! The School Pupil Leader would be standing, next to the Principal, who used to give commands for the Prefects, during the prayer session. During the prayer, the Principal addresses the gathering with some quotes and thoughts. Also, there would a prayer song before this. The prayer song was usually sung by the choir boys and the music would be played by the MAT Music ensemble. It would be so pleasant and delighted to hear the song as well as the music, and the Principal would play the role of the concertmaster who used to give signals on the due course of the singing.
After that, the School Pupil Leader would instruct the gathering to do meditation. When everyone kept their head down with their eyes closed during that time, there was particularly one student, who used to look over the Principal and School Pupil Leader without blinking his eyes, over and over, for a long time. That student was none other than Kani. Yes, Kani never knew before that Meditation means to stand still and pray to the god. And it took 3 years since then, for Kani to understand the actual meaning of meditation. Inside the class, all were very naughty at that time.
There used to be one-to-one fights between two extremely powerful personalities of the class. The entire class used to divide into two teams and boost up them during the play-time. The rule was that they should use only their heads but not hands or any other body parts and do dashing with each other on their heads and the winner would the one who stood unbeaten till the end. Harish and Siva Prakash mostly used to battle each other in this context. Both of them were strong guys at that time. Kani used to support Harish, all the time, as he was his best friend during those days. Young calf knows no fear, right? And, for them, the pain wasn't even a matter of consideration as they had great immune power at that age.
