*Nolans POV*
It had been weeks since Remi and the others were taken. The rogues took fifty-three members in total between our pack and Red River. I have been standing in as Alpha for my father while he is in the hospital. Doc is not sure if he can take over his duties again, but there hasn't been anything official done yet. Which I am thankful for.
I have all our best trackers out there trying to track down Remi. Since that night, I have had a weight on my chest. An unwavering pain. I hadn't seen her in years before the festival but the short time I got to dance with her lit a spark in me. I have this aching feeling to get her back home. I have four teams out. I even called Parker off his traveling assignment. He is my best friend and will become my Beta when that time comes. He is the best tracker I know and is leading our north team that is on the trail where I last scented Remi.
Report, I mind linked the teams. Alpha Ian was as eager to get his members back as I. He has a small pack, maybe 250, where we have one of the largest at 1500.
We lost the trail to the west, Alpha. S**t! They had a good trail last night.
Nothing here
Us too, sorry Alpha.
F**k!
I was waiting on Parker. I needed him to have something. Anything
"Alpha Ian, all but one team has reported back. Sadly, our west team lost the trail they were on yesterday." Alpha Ian had contributed his highest ranked warriors to the search. I had set up accommodations for their pack to stay with us until we could get their members back.
“Alpha, please give me good news” Beta Taylor walked into my office. Man, he looks rough. After having my dad injured and his daughter taken, he has been on edge, understandably.
“Nothing yet, Taylor. But we are still waiting for a report from Parker and..”
Alpha, we caught a strong trail that looks like it is leading up to the old coven castle. I sent Leah ahead to check it out. She should be back in the next 10 min. Parker mind-linked me
“They are on a good trail” I stated out loud.
Great! Let me know when Leah is back and we’ll head that way. We are about 9 hours away from that area.
Everyone was looking at me awaiting.
“Beta Taylor, what is the best way to get to the old coven castle?”
“The witches castle?” confusion crossed his face.
“ Yes, Parker states the trail looks to be leading there”. I pulled the area maps out of my father's desk and laid them out on the table in the middle of the room.
“Um. OK, we can take the jeeps up this back road. But it is a rough road, so it may get interesting.” He points to an old ATV trail to the north.
Nolan, Leah got eyes on the castle. She says there are about a dozen guards outside. She believes our people are in the cells underground.
Parker, have you seen her? I told Parker about Remi and how I felt.
Sorry man, no. My heart sank a little. I turned to look out my window, which faced the training ground. It still had the remnant of the dance. The stage was still standing, the light still hung. I could still feel her in my arms. Smell that sweet scent of peaches. Parker, I gotta find her.
I know Man. We will…….
Hold until we get there. Notify me of any movement or change.
Yes Alpha
I turned my attention back to the room. “Parker is holding his potion until we get there. Leah stated there may be twelve guards outside the castle, and she believes our members are in the underground cells. Parker has a total of three wolves with him, so I want our top twenty-five, and I am coming with” Beta Taylor's eyebrow shot up at that.
“Don't you think you should stay, with your father's condition?”
“No, I will be retrieving our park members and that is final!” Gamma Ben knocked on the open door, interrupting Beta Taylor's stare.
“Alpha, any news?” He looked worse than Taylor.
“Yes, they believe they are being held at the old castle. We are heading there as soon as possible”, I informed Ben.
“I would like to accompany you”. He perked up a little at the new information. I thought for a moment, this could be risky not knowing what we would find, and I didn't know how he would react. I linked him
If I let you come, can I count on you following my every word and holding your emotion until we return. No matter what we find?
Yes Alpha! His eyes were begging.
“That will be fine. Beta Taylor, I want you to stay here with the rest of the warriors. I want extra guards set around the border. I don't want this to be a trap and leave the pack vulnerable to be hit again.” Taylor gave me a tight nod and I know he was upset to not be going, but he agreed. He turned and left, going to brief the warriors staying here.
“ Gamma Ben, I need everyone ready to leave in the Jeeps or ATVs within the hour” He nodded and left to follow Taylor, mind linking me and thanking me for letting him go.
“Alpha Nolan, what can we do?” Alpha Ian broke the silence. He was an old man who should have turned his pack over to a new alpha a long time ago. With only having a daughter and her still never finding a mate, this hadn’t happened yet.
“ I have a few warriors I can send, and my daughter can help in the hospital, for when you bring everyone back.”
“That sounds great, I'll have someone bring you to the hospital, and please inform your warriors we will be leaving ASAP” Alpha Ian's daughter smiled at me, still not speaking, and gave a small nod. They both took their leave, leaving me in my office alone. I plopped on the couch leaning my head back, rubbing my temples. We have to get her back Ryan, my wolf stated in my head. My chest was still tight and my head hurt, but I knew I had to push through to get her back. Thoughts of what we might find were running through my head. What if we find her injured or worse. There was such a strong pull towards her, I have never had towards anyone, not a mate pull but something. After hearing my parents all those years ago, I don't think she has a mate. Maybe that is it. I feel the need to protect her because no one else is destined too. I just need to get her home, then I can figure that out. I grabbed the map and headed to change before meeting the group. I want this done tonight.
