Chapter Four Hard rain pounded on Dane’s flesh like fists, and he brushed a sopping hand across his face, vainly trying to clear his eyes. He stood at the main mast, holding on with one arm, shouting orders that were ripped away by the howling wind. Night had overtaken them with the abruptness of this cursed storm, and the constant flashes of lightening provided the only illumination. A hand gripped his shoulder hard, and he looked into Tomas’ wild eyes. “Ah, Captain, this is life!” the first mate mouthed, his words as lost as Dane’s. Dane nodded curtly, not trusting the man, noting the odd, insane fire that animated his face. There was something terribly dangerous about his first mate.
