Chapter Seventeen
A time out for Allison
Jessica watched helplessly as the other girl was dragged over to where she stood locked to the post. Nevada's words echoed in her mind, and the truth of them made feelings of guilt creep into her mind. The girl was right. Their captor had set her up for failure. Jessica remembered how she'd been treated before her first attempt at the test. She had been sore and hurting when she'd first been given the chance to try to become a show pony. In that way, their situations were the same.
But there were differences, too, Jessica realized. She remembered the time that he had made her spend walking around the rope ring before he put her on the wheel. It had been a grueling, painful experience, of course, but it had also helped her to learn to walk better
