of his career, produced his epic on the observeding of Roman civilization via the Trojan hero Aeneas. The Aeneid become published unfinished after Virgil’s demise in 19 b.C.E., and a few incomplete half of-traces attest to the truth that the paintings had not but obtained the poet’s “very last hand.” The poem, in spite of those minor flaws,
is a masterpiece and constitutes Virgil’s most formidable remedy of his primary subject matters: violence and civilization, the gigantic hard work of making and maintaining human society, and the land of Italy itself as the web page of violent struggle, idyllic habitation, exilic nostalgia, and agricultural toil.
