"Don't move." Celeste stopped. The gun against her back was cold. "Turn around. Slow." She turned. It wasn't her mother's men. It was Marcus. "Marcus?" "Where's Damien?" she asked. "Looking for you. Let's go." He grabbed her arm and pulled her to a metal door. Inside was a tunnel. Dark. Smelled like mold. "The timer—my mother—" "She lied. No timer. Just needed her guys distracted." They ran. Water dripped everywhere. The ground became moist. "How'd you discover me?" "Damien tracked you. Even after you left." Her belly dropped. He'd been looking at her the entire time. They got here out in an alley. Black car sitting there. Marcus pushed her in. Damien was driving His eyes met hers within the mirror. He seemed hard. Like he hadn't slept in days. "You are alive," he said.
