It required several days to get all her systems working, Margaret found. The telephone, in particular, was not going to be installed quickly, although a private line in the area was not being used. The company, however, would make no promise as to a date for installing it.
Carlotta put her small square foot down with great firmness. “You are not going to stay out there on Bobcat Ridge, all alone, without at least a telephone,” she said. “Everybody and his Uncle Ned and his dog Ted goes down to the river below your place, and there’s just no telling when some juiced-up kids might decide to pay you a visit.”
