Theo POV
It’s so amusing to see the frustration on my mate's face. She’s so cute when she’s embarrassed. All I did was ask for her name. Aella. My wolf purrs in the back of my mind just hearing her name roll off my tongue. Such a beautiful name for my beautiful mate. I can’t help but smirk at her gestures and pink cheeks.
"Just a water, Aella."
I’m not really thirsty, but I don’t have the heart to say no to her, even for something as simple as that. Aliyah comes shuffling around the corner holding a broom, placing it against the counter, proceeding to start fiddling with something at the register.
Aella comes rushing around the corner, oblivious to the newly placed broom that was not previously in her way. She trips over it, the clumsy little thing, spilling the glass of water all over me. I stand up as a reaction, trying to find a rag to clean myself up. Poor little Mate, she must be so embarrassed now.
All of sudden sparks rush all through out my body, making my wolf growls, feeling an intense desire I'd never felt before. I look down to see my poor little mate trying to clean up the mess she caused, rubbing her hands gently across my body. I can’t help but smirk at her, controlling Ace with all the strength I have in order to not take my mate on this very counter. I hear faint chuckling coming from the register and glance up to see none other than my sister, staring with a smile so big you’d think she won the lottery. So this was intentional. That sneaky little she-wolf. She’ll pay for this when we get home. Aella quickly backs away as I look back down, our eyes meeting once again.
“You could at least buy me dinner first, sweetheart.”
My sister loses it. Her laughter filling the empty diner. My mate just looks at us in shock, mouth wide open, sounds escaping her mouth, but not being able to form a proper sentence.
“I… uh.. well.. sorry? Oh my… ughh”
I stare at her snickering along with my sister, joining in on the laughter grabbing Aella’s arm, gently pulling her towards me.
“It’s ok, Aella. I forgive you, but I am serious about the dinner part.”
Having her this close is driving my wolf insane. He scolds me in the back of my mind, telling me how could I dare do this to him knowing he can’t control himself around her. I push him further into the back of my mind and continue enjoying the feeling of being so close to my sweet gift from the moon goddess. She stares up at me, still unable to speak.
“How does Friday sound?”
That seems to get her out of whatever trance she was just in and she looks down at her feet, speaking barely above a whisper.
“I haven’t celebrated my birthday in 5 years… It would be a nice change.”
I was only able to hear her because of the enhanced hearing that comes with being a werewolf.
“Did she just say 5 years?” Aliyah mind links.
I stay silent, not knowing what to say. I think back to yesterday when my beta, Jax, informed me of how she arrived through a portal in an unconscious state. It didn’t make sense. Why was she in another realm in the first place? Werewolves don’t reside in a different realm, belonging only to our kind. We reside in the human realm, hidden well within society.
A human could be working side by side with a werewolf and would most likely never find out. Omegas usually work as teachers, police officers, or even doctors. While those of higher ranks are chosen as VP’s and chairmans for successful companies. I am the CEO of a multimillion dollar company, with my beta Jax working as my VP. It’s been like this for generations. The only other known realms are the dark realm, residence to demons, dark witches, and the vampires who prefer to live in solitude, and the celestial realm, home to the angels, sylphs, and the gods and goddesses from all types, including our beloved moon goddess. The human realm is also home to the witches and wizards who prefer to keep a low profile and live as humans, modernized vampires, were-bears, and, of course, werewolves.
“Let’s go girls, it’s time to go. Aella, where are you staying? We can drop you off on the way.”
“At a small bed and breakfast down the block.” She smiles up at me, rounding the corner to start turning off the lights.
We get into the car and start driving to the only bed and breakfast on this street.
“Alright, this is my stop”, my mate says as she starts to open the door and wave goodbye.
I can’t help the weird sensation building up in me as I see her about to step out of the car. I look up in the rearview mirror and just barely spot two shadowy figures dashing into the alleyway of the bed and breakfast.
“Wait! Aliyah and I will walk you up to your room. Right, Aliyah?”
“Uh, sure, why not?”Aella looks at us awkwardly but ultimately shrugs and waves us to come in after her.
As we walk up the stairs, the floorboards creak loudly under the heavy weight of our feet. When we reach the top of the stairs, I instinctively step in front of Aella and Aliyah, protecting them from the perceived danger in front of us. Aella doesn’t realize what’s going on, trying to peak around my massive body blocking her view.
“Get her in the car! NOW!” I mindlinked my sister.
Without any hesitation, she grabbed Aella by the arm and ran down the stairs to the parked car. One of the two men in front of me tries to run after them, but is met with a blow to the gut, causing him to topple over. Both men come to a fighting stance in front of me. I don’t know who they are but I instantly recognize what they are. Demons.
"Who sent you?" I question sternly.
What could they possibly want with Aella. I don’t have time to think as one of the attackers runs towards me full speed. I dodge his attack just in time, swinging at the other man coming from the other direction. I grab his head, slamming it against the head of the other man, knocking both of them out cold. I mindlink Jax to come with my gamma to come take the men to the cellars for interrogation as I rush down the stairs to the car to ensure my mate and my sister are safe.
I see Aella confused and scared in the car, Aliyah comforting her as tears begin to brim her eyes. I quickly open the door pulling her into my embrace, knowing that it will calm her even if she doesn’t fully recognize the bond. I feel her relax into my arms, nuzzling against my chest, breathing in my scent deeply. I smile at the thought of bringing my mate such comfort.
“You’re staying with Aliyah and I tonight. It’s a bit of a drive, but the area is secluded and I promise you you’ll be safe.” I say this, peering down into her tear-streaked face, embracing her once again, only this time it’s to calm myself down.
