"Aren't you going to invite me in?”
Abaddon quickly slid his tongue over his teeth to check for stray lettuce before smiling in reply. “Bast! Come on in. I thought you'd be with Lucifer and the rest of the gods working out the kinks in the plans.”
“I got bored. You can't blame a girl for wanting a change of scenery can you? Besides; I wanted to see you.” She wound her arms around his neck and drank in the scent of him before kissing him softly along the base of his throat. Her perfume was a combination of fresh sea air and tuberose. It was a delicate yet cloying scent that rushed to Abaddon’s head. It reminded him of turquoise oceans and pristine white beaches. He hadn't realized that they'd backed through the entrance and shut the door and he wasn't sure when the two of them had gone upstairs and taken a turn into his bedroom.
Their fingertips were tangling in their clothing while their tongues explored each other’s mouths, necks, and shoulders. Her nails raked softly through his hair, tickling his scalp and igniting his nerve endings. He growled against her neck, giving into his more primal instincts as her hands ventured toward his waistline. Their bodies were tuned to each other. It was as if they were telecommunicating their desires and thoughts to each other. They didn't say a word. They simply kissed and scratched and nipped at each other until she finally climbed on top of him and shimmied her hips until he slid inside of her. The two of them made passionate, feral noises and when they both finally climaxed, the moon shown bright and full and golden through the open window. She slid off of him and curled up against him, purring softly. They both fell into dreamlessness and woke to the sound of a car pulling into the gravel driveway.
"That'll be the boss’s kid. I should probably go down there. You're welcome to stay for breakfast.” He stroked the small of her back softly as she arched her back so that her breasts rubbed against his side. She stretched a little more, yawning as she answered.
“I think I should get going. Last night was fun but I'm not sure I should be here when Lucifer’s child arrives.”She slid off the bed and began dressing herself.
“I'll just sneak out the back.” She kissed him chastely on the cheek and slipped out down the balcony. Abaddon got up and pulled on sweats and a t-shirt. He stumbled downstairs as Marzan began to knock on the door. Abaddon opened the door. He squinted in the morning sunlight as he ruffled his hair and yawned immensely.
“Good to see how well prepared you are Abaddon.” Marzan smirked at Abaddon’s bed headed, sleepy eyed appearance.
"Stuff it Marzan. It isn't like I knew the actual timeline. I'm ready for the kid.” He looked down at Kyle. The boy was slightly less gloomy looking than he'd been the other day.
“You want some breakfast kid?” Kyle actually smiled then.
“Sure! Whatcha got?”
“Well I've got eggs and potatoes, bacon, sausages. I could make waffles or pancakes if you want. What'd you think?”
“I like waffles! Bacon too! And potatoes!” He gestured for Abaddon to lean in closer to him and whispered in the demon’s ear. “But he doesn't get to have breakfast with us, does he?” He tipped his head at Marzan as he said it. “That guy is stinky and not very friendly. He doesn't deserve waffles.”
Abaddon snorted and smiled. “Nah. This'll be just for us. Then I going to show you your room and we'll go play with some Hellhounds!”
The boy’s eyes went wide. “Cool!” He grabbed Abaddon’s hand and started to run into the house. “Come on! Let's go!”
Abaddon laughed softly and looked at Marzan. “I've got it from here stinky. You're free to go.”
He took Kyle’s suitcase from the dumbfounded Marzan and shut the door in his face and followed Kyle into the manor. Kyle was staring fixedly into the koi pond when Abaddon turned into the foyer. The fish were all turned toward the boy. It was a funny sight. Like a ragtag band of soldiers listening to a St. Crispin’s Day type speech before going into a battle and facing extreme odds. Abaddon felt a sense of loyalty and a fierce protectiveness he'd never felt before welled inside of him. He would fight for this boy. And if the necessity arose, he would die for this boy. His paternal instincts surprised the demon. Especially since this child was not his, but was the child of his friend and master. Abaddon had never thought much about children. He didn't think he would ever be a father. But he was happy and intrigued by how easily he took to the role with Kyle. He liked talking to the boy and making breakfast for him. He enjoyed the sheer happiness of the boy when he walked into the bedroom Abaddon had created just for him. He felt satisfied and complete when the boy ran up to him and embraced him.
“Thanks uncle Abaddon! How did you know that dinosaurs and space were my favorites?”
He beamed inwardly at the thought of being an uncle. He wondered if Lucifer felt the same way about Kyle. “Oh. I just had a hunch that dinosaurs and space were the types of things a smart boy like you would be into.”
Kyle ran off to grab a stuffed triceratops. “The triceratops is my favorite plant eater! But do you know what my favoritest dinosaur is?” He ran over to the wall and pointed. “The velocity raptor is the coolest! It hunts in packs and they're so fast!”
Abaddon laughed at the boy’s pronunciation and at how he crouched down and pounced, making claw hooks with his forefingers and slashing at the stuffed triceratops. Abaddon had been around when dinosaurs were here. He had helped create the velociraptor. He liked intelligent, dangerous creatures that worked as a team to take down larger foe. The velociraptor was a lot like how he viewed his own efforts and plans with Lucifer. The two demons were uncommonly intelligent and were dedicated to their efforts to take down the one behind the injustices they'd faced. The boy was now jumping around, kicking and roaring at imaginary dinosaurs around the room.
Abaddon spent the day hanging out with Kyle. Around one o’clock, the two of them went down to work with the Hellhounds. Kyle s eyes looked like they were too big for his face when he first got a look at the massive canine-like creatures in the kennels. They looked like what one would imagine a dire wolf looked like when mixed with a saber-toothed wolf. Their teeth, although absolutely massive, were not elongated like a saber-toothed animal. They stood a solid six feet high at the shoulders. Their fur, surprisingly, was not simply black. They came in the same multiple colors as real wolves. There were shades of black, gray, brown, tan, and even almost red. Their claws were hooked and wicked. Their eyes were golden. Kyle expected Hellhounds to look like large Dobermans, Rottweiler’s, Mastiffs, or Pit bulls. He expected that they'd be black with red eyes and acid for drool. He didn't think they would look like giant wolves, but he was happy they did.
“They’re awesome! How are they so big?”
“That's just how they're made. Your dad and I came up with them and created them a really long time ago and when we changed stations we brought them with us so they could be our projects; and they make really great security.”
"That's so cool!”
Kyle walked up to a kennel holding a large male Hellhound. He stood a few feet from the door. The creature began growling. It started low and guttural until it ripped from the creature’s throat like a scream. The boy stood his ground, staring at the creature as it flung itself at the door of the kennel, snarling and clawing at the child. Abaddon stood back and watched as the boy continued his stare down of the Hellhound. The creature became to calm itself slowly. After five minutes of staring, the Hellhound dropped down with its head resting on two enormous paws. It panted and whined and then went quiet. The boy stepped closer to the kennel and placed his small hand through the cage and rested it on the creature’s snout. The Hellhound remained calm. Kyle looked up to Abaddon then, the demon was leaning against a small tree with his arms crossed casually in front of his chest.
“He’s mine.”
Kyle declared this simply and matter of factly. Abaddon did not argue. He had the same skills with the Hellhounds and once you were bonded with one as Kyle had just done with this one, there was nothing that could break it. He grinned.
“Of course he's yours. You need a Hellhound of your own for what your dad has planned. He’ll protect you and will respond only to you as his master.”
The boy grinned like a goblin and removed his hand from the Hellhound. He stood up and faced Abaddon.
“His name is Rex.”
He walked back by Abaddon’s side. “I'm hungry. Whatcha got for lunch?”
Abaddon laughed and put his hand on the boy’s shoulder.
“I'm hungry too. Let's go see what we've got.”
The pair left the Hellhounds to themselves and went back into the house to figure out their lunch situation.
By Friday, Abaddon began to wonder where Lucifer was. He hadn't checked in since Sunday and the demon was beginning to believe something had happened. He had attempted calling Lucifer and had received no response. He was running out of options. If he couldn't get help directly from Lucifer then he would have to find another way to get in contact. He called Marzan and Castor. Neither had heard from Lucifer either. He tried calling Bast and she didn't answer either. He hadn't spoken to her since she left Monday morning. He had one more option, although he'd wished that he wouldn't need to use her. He picked up the silver phone once more and his finger hovered over a name for a few seconds before he shook his head and hit the call button.
