Ace POV
He hated when it was time for the court visits. The doors were open to anyone. Mainly the process was to hear concerns of the townspeople and the nobles. He stood to the right of his brother the emperor. He had his left hand on his hip and his right arm resting on the blade hilt. He sighed he was extremely uncomfortable and hot in his uniform. The armor hugged tight and is one shouldered. Her right arm was free from cloth. The pants were loose, and a cloth belt held them up wrapped tight. The colors were dark blue and silver lining. He wore a wide brimmed hat that just covered his eyes. He had his hair tied up into a ponytail that was tucked under the hat. He glanced to the emperor, who was his little brother, if he was annoyed, he hid it well.
Derrick POV
Honestly, he didn’t mind the visits. He just didn’t like how long it took. He looked over to his brother. He has got to be hot in that armor. Even with the air flowing through the room it was still hot. One of the servants was fanning him so he stayed moderately cool. He deferred from wearing the traditional robes, instead he wore regular trousers and a shirt same color as Ace’s armor. It wasn’t very royal like, but no one was going to complain. When they make appearances in the court, he and his siblings must wear the traditional colors. He didn’t mind but he felt it was intimidating and people were a little more scared of the colors. He listened diligently to the complaints and requests of the nobles and villagers. He looked to his left a little further down the steps was the scriber or better put his little sister, Avery.
Avery POV
Without taking her eyes off the paper, she wrote quickly and efficiently. She noted names and titles of the nobles and villagers. She didn’t mind the mindless task. She was great at organization for her notes. She always knew where to find the notes and which ones were needed for which meetings. She wore a light kimono and her hair was tied in a ponytail. She muttered as she wrote the notes down. She jumped at the sudden shouting. She looked up and a guard was running into the room.
Ace POV
He watched the guard weave his way through the crowd. He descended the steps quickly and met the guard halfway.
The guard took a deep breath. “General from the north barbarians,” he was saying through breaths. “They just showed up all of a sudden.”
Ace placed a hand on his shoulder. “Calm yourself, get some rest.” He turned and looked at Derrick. Derrick had followed him along with Avery.
Derrick gave a nod. “Guards lock down the palace get the remaining people in here now. Get the horses ready.” Derrick followed him, along with Avery, as he made his way down the steps and into the courtyard.
Ace POV
They stood on the wall watching the barbarian army approach. The army came to a halt. A very large grassy knoll lay between them and the army. He stood with his arms crossed and watched the army.
“Rather large isn’t it?” He estimated a good 20000 soldiers. They didn’t fly flags and they were rough looking barely wearing any clothes.
“You’re not worried, are you?” Derrick gave a chuckle. He looked to Avery who shrugged.
“No shall we then?” He turned and walked down to the main gate. He gestured for the guards to open as he and his siblings walked out onto the grassy knoll. He watched as another small party walked out as well. He noted the man who was freakishly large. He carried a huge sword that was resting on his shoulder. Next to him was a young woman and another male just as tall as him. Ace had a funny feeling about the woman. He shook it off as Derrick stepped ahead of them.
Derrick POV
He kept enough distance between him and the small group. Just in case they decided to attack. Curiously though he wondered why they are attacking now. For 20 years, they have been at peace with the neighboring countries and tribes. He never did figure out why though. One day the battles abruptly stopped, and no one ever attacked them again. He examined the group no doubt Ace had already assessed the group.
