Chapter 9

MIA The next thing I did was severely and horribly wrong. I stabbed Nora’s thigh with the scissors with all the effort I had in my body. And I ran. With every ounce of strength, I ran for my life. I faintly remembered that there was some back door with garden. It was obvious that the front door would be heavily guarded and I would not stand a chance, at least not in this condition. I ran down the stairs and darted toward the back door only to be slammed into a huge figure. I looked up, almost gaping. The man was almost as huge and scary as Viktor. I blinked once or twice with my mouth open. He loomed over me like a predator, forehead creased in confusion and with a dark, questioning look on his face. “How the hell are you roaming around? Boss told you to stay in a room,” he growled a deep rumbling tone. And I scrambled back, cowering in fear. “I-w-was j-just...I ...door” I kept stuttering, looking for the right words. Before I could even complete the sentence, he raised an alarm. But I wasn’t ready to give up. This was probably my last chance, I knew. I managed to balance myself on feet, reared back and kicked him in the nuts, and ran for my life. I had no demographic knowledge of the mansion so figuring out an escape was extremely difficult. What was I thinking? I frantically ran inside a room and slammed the door shut. I strode toward the window, jerked it open and jumped out. But somehow I got stuck. When I turned around, I saw a strong pair of hands held my ankle, pulling me back with no little force. Before I could have pushed back, I was pulled down from the ledge of the window and fell on my back with a thud. Thanks to the thick carpet, my back wasn’t hurt. A furious figure stood over me, his eyes glaring daggers and arms crossed over his chest. I glanced up and gulped loudly with terror-filled eyes. The blood chilled in my veins when I recognized the face. Viktor. His mouth was pressed into a straight line, nostrils flared, and jaws clenched. At that moment, I realized how stupid I was. I was playing with fire. “What did I tell you about behaving properly, Mia?” he asked in a dangerously cold voice, stepping closer. Instinctively, I scrambled back in fear. I opened my mouth and then snapped it shut. I knew that no amount of explanation would have been helpful. All I could do was beg for mercy, pleading through my eyes. However, he was too infuriated to notice that. He roughly lifted me up from the floor, dragging me out of the room in his wake. I could barely match his angry steps but Viktor was too furious to care. His fingers were digging into my flesh painfully and I squealed. He brought me back to the same room, forcing me down on the chair. “Please, please... you have to listen to me once... please,” I sobbed, begging him to calm down at least. “Quiet!” he roared. He started securing my hands, legs, shoulders, and thighs as tightly as possible so I could not even move a muscle. My eyes darted towards the corner where Nora sat, tending her bleeding skin and scowling at me. Well, I could not blame her obviously. I just wanted the drugs. Just one dose. Desperately. The more I struggled, the angrier Viktor got. “Do you really have to make things so hard for yourself?” he barked, making me flinch. Then he turned towards Nora. “Are you alright? Do I need to call Dominic?” “Oh, no! Not at all. I will be fine.” She flashed her usual curt smile. Viktor turned his eyes back toward me, frowning. “You should not have done that, Mia. There’s only so much I can do to keep you safe,” he muttered and shook his head, almost regrettably. “I-I am s-sorry...p-please,” I sobbed, hiccuping half the sentence. “Enough! Not a word, Mia. I warned you. I told you what would happen if you cross me. Last night, I let it go but today, I won’t. You would know what punishment looks like,” he promised, his voice going dangerously low. “P-please don’t hurt me. Please!” I begged for my life. He was a monster. He was capable of a lot of things. And I was stupid enough to think I could escape him. But I noticed a sudden change in Viktor’s expression and it puzzled me. His lips curled into a smirk—a menacing smirk. Somehow it frightened me even more. Like a silence before the storm. my brows furrowed in confusion, and I swallowed hard. “Oh! I am not going to hurt you, kitten,” he crooned. He took hold of my chin and slowly trailed his thumb over my lips. “This punishment is going to be special. And you will remember this for a very, very long time.” I was clueless. I peered into his eyes, searching for an answer. Hot tears burned my eyes while lower lip trembled in apprehension. He took my face between his palms and cooed me gently. His fingers curled around my nape, caressing slowly. My eyelids drooped down involuntarily under his sensual touch. Carefully, he gathered my hair and pushed it back, running his fingers slowly along the slope of my neck. “Shh...Calm down, Mia. Calm down,” he murmured, almost whispering. And I realized my thumping heartbeat slowed down for the moment. Until I heard the clippers buzz to life.
