I was transfixed. I was speechless.
His affection, those words...they made me speechless. The words held a solemn promise—a vow. I saw the flickering hope that could light up the eerie, dark corners of my heart. A surreal expectation arose that someone would be kind enough to take away the pain...the bad memories.
Was Viktor going to be the man?
But, wasn’t he the monster? Wasn’t he supposed to break me until there’s nothing left? My brain countered.
He could have. He had every power against me and yet he didn’t break me.
The monster had a heart, after all. I thought to myself.
“Eat. You need strength.” He held the food near my lips as I simply took a bite and devoured the taste of my favorite food. God! I missed junk food.
