CHAPTER XXVIII

I was starting to feel anxious when she started chanting. I lunged at her in hopes of stopping her from chanting but spirits kept on appearing. The more she chants the more the spirits appear. “Do you see the difference of abilities between the two of us?” She asked while giving me an expression that showed how low she sees me. I scoffed and told her, “I can clearly see that you’re weak compared to me,” I bluffed. I’m aware of the fact that I am rusty in using my powers. It’s been years but in a duel that wasn’t an excuse so I had to find a way to win no matter the difference in our abilities. “Still cocky,” She said and motioned for her spirits to attack me. I was using my sword to fight them but every time I would s***h them nothing happens. “You can’t fight off my spirits with just sword made out of your magic, Isabel. I thought you’d know better than that,” She said and left her spirits attack me. I was continuously dodging their attack and it was taking most of my energy. “I thought you were strong? Why are you running?” She asked in mockery before laughing at me. I ignored her and tried to dodge her spirits. I would slice them up just to buy me some time but if I continue to run then I won’t have enough energy to fight. “Isabel,” I heard Josefina’s voice which made me look at her. She wasn’t doing anything that looked suspicious so I guess this is a development of her power. “What?” I thought hoping that she would hear me. “If you keep this up then your physical body will get worn out,” She said as I dodge the spirits. “I know that but I don’t know how to stop her,” I said but just as I said that I was scratched by one of her spirit. I fell on the ground and started coughing. What is this? “It seems you were finally hit by one,” Felicia said and walked up towards me. She placed her sword under my chin and made me race my head to look at her, “These are vengeful spirit and getting hit by them would mean you’ll absorb miasma and for Maharlikans like you, miasma is deadly. So, you better do your best,” She said but as soon as she was finished speaking I let the lance I created behind her stab her. But she was quick to dodge so instead of getting hit in the chest, she was hit on the shoulder. “Didn’t you learn your lesson?” She asked and smiled at me. “The more you spill my blood the stronger my spirits become.” “Is that so?” I asked and jumped away. This is starting to become a pain in the ass. “Josefina, can you hear me?” I asked and she responded by saying, “Yes,” “Do you know a way to defeat her?” I asked hoping she knows something. I was desperately defending myself when I heard her answer, “You need to break the sword,” She answered. My gaze turned towards her sword. “How do I destroy that?” “Use the Juru Pakal your mother gave you,” She said which made me furrow my eyebrows. Juru Pakal? How do I conjure that? As I was thinking of how I can bring the Juru Pakal to me, I was hit by another spirit. I could feel the stinging pain when they were able to scratch me. “If you continue to get hit then you’ll die,” She said and gave me this sinister smile. I hated the way the looked at me like she was sure that she was going to win. “Don’t give me that look,” I said and charged towards her. I stabbed her and kicked her sword away. “Do you think that’s enough?” She said and kicked me in the stomach. I jumped back and charged to shatter her sword but her spirits were able to take it away. As I watch the spirits lift her sword, I didn’t notice that she charged towards me. “I told you to keep your eyes on your opponent,” She said and pinned me to the ground. She had her hand on my neck and I couldn’t breathe. “Isabel, just call for the Juru Pakal,” Josefina said so I did. I was relieved that I could still remember what it looked liked. “Juru Pakal, come,” I wheezed out. It took at least a minute but I saw it flying towards me. It stabbed Felicia in the chest and left a huge hole as it went to my body. “Good job,” I said and lunged towards Felicia. I aimed for her head but I was surprised when she didn’t dodge at all. “What’s happening?” I asked out loud. I looked towards Josefina and Danilo and the expression on their faces made me anxious. They looked like they were hit by a mixture of sudden realization and dread. I looked at where they were looking and saw Felicia floating in the middle of the spirits. “Don’t tell me…” I whispered as I stare at her. “Isabel!” I heard Josefina yell so I turned around and saw the spirit of a gigantic dog demon. I dodged when its paw landed on where I was. As I jump backward one of her spirits was floating there. It was able to scratch me in the arm and I could feel the miasma flowing inside me. I created a platform and created a barrier. I was floating in the air as the spirits attempt to strike me again. “That barrier won’t hold long,” I heard Felicia say which made me look above me. My eyes went wide when I saw her riding the demon dog. I released my barrier and platform and landed on the ground. “Juru Pakal, do me a favor,” I said and it released it. I then created a bow and arrow made out of my magic and aimed at the dog demon’s chest. I was watching the Juru Pakal pierce its way through the spirits that were coming towards me. I was waiting for it to stab the dog demons chest and when it was close enough I released my arrow and chanted purification. If that dog demon spirit is a vengeful one then if I were able to purify it then it will vanish. “I commend you for remembering that you have purification powers,” Felicia said and stood in front of me. “It seems that you’re remembering some of your powers now that you’re in a life or death situation. I guess it’s time to be serious then,” She said and revealed her true form.
