Chapter 2

“ We don't." Susan and I answered at the same time. My mother chuckled, patting my brother's shoulders. “ Seems like your mate isn't loyal to you anymore." She mocked. Lucas glared at me but I ignored him. I mean, what kind of a question was that? Did our reaction match the people meeting for the first time? After exchanging pleasantries with Susan, we all headed to the dining room. Sitting between my family, having a meal while chatting happily was something I have missed for the past five months. Leaving your home to a totally new place without any friend had to be the hardest experience of my life. I can't count the number of times I wanted to come back and be with them, but I just couldn't. The wound left in my heart was just too deep and needed time to be healed. After dinner, I headed back to my room. My brother excused himself and left for the Alpha's office. Throughout lunch, I could tell that someone was mindlinking him. I was halfway done climbing the stairs when a voice had me halting in my steps. “ Turns out I'm not your friend anymore huh?" Turning around, Amanda stood there, her hands akimbo as she had that miserable look on her face. I fought the urge to roll my eyes at her dramatic entry. “How is that possible? You do know that you are my favorite person.” I replied with a smile, descending the stairs to meet her. I had just finished descending the stairs when she crashed into me, sending the both of us on the floor. That's Amanda for you. A little bit crazy but the best you could find for a friend. “ I can see you plan on breaking my bones." I accused, pushing her off me and getting by butt off the floor. “ What bones? I doubt you even felt any pain." She answered, slapping my butt before giggling. I glared at her but ended up smiling. It's so hard to stay mad at Amanda. Taking my hand, she led me upstairs and into my room. Slumping on the bed like she owned it, the smile on her face vanished. “ I did what you asked me." She said, looking me in the face. “ And?" “ There's something indeed wrong with him." She replied, a concerned look on her face. “Is it serious?" I asked and she nodded. “ He is hiding it from everyone. It's like he doesn't want anyone to know." Amanda replied. “ I don't understand. Why won't he try to get treatment? It's easy to get his blood tested and identify the poison. He can easily get a team to make an antidote for him.” I wondered out loud. “ That's not the only problem. It's like someone knows about his situation and wants to take advantage of this to attack the pack." Amanda added, making me frown. “Attack the pack? No one told me about that." “ That's because my brother asked the few people who know to keep it a secret. What's even more strange is that it's the witches attacking." Amanda revealed, a frown settling on her face hearing her words. “ Witches again?" I mumbled. Three years ago during the night I shifted, my house was attacked by a group of witches. If it wasn't for that strange Lady who came just in time, I might still not be alive. To keep witches away from me for whatever reason she didn't disclose, she used magic to seal my wolf. Although I can communicate with her, I can't shift. “ What do you mean by that?" Amanda asked, narrowing her eyes at me. “ It's nothing." I replied. I wasn't going to reveal anything about that night to anyone. Actually, apart from that mysterious lady, no one knows about the fact that I shifted three years ago. Not even my family. “ Let's forget about him for now. Tell me, what plans do you have now that you are back?” Amanda asked, making me heave a heavy sigh. " I don't have any plans but I know one thing, I'm back for good. I am not going to run away again from my troubles or that man.” I answered. Five years ago, I chose to run away now that I'm back. I am going to confront my past and the first thing is to cut whatever ties I have with that man. “ Have you made up your mind? To reject him?" Amanda asked and I nodded. “ Now that he already has his life and I have mine, I'll give him what he wanted from the start. I will officially reject him and cut all ties with him.” I answered with conviction. “ Does that mean you have a boyfriend?" Amanda asked, wriggling her brows at me. “ What boyfriend?" I answered with a frown. “ What do you mean by, what boyfriend? You've been in the city for five years and you want to make me believe you didn't find someone to … You know.” Amanda asked, winking at me. I looked away, my face burning with embarrassment. Trust Amanda to bring up the most awkward conversation. " No! I can't believe this! You want to tell me you are still a Virgin?” Amanda practically shrieked, a frown marred on her face. My eyes wandered anywhere but her face. “This is unbelievable! You want to die like an old maiden or what?” She asked, disbelief painted on her face. “ What's wrong with being a Virgin at my age?" I retorted, rolling my eyes at her. “ You want to start your life afresh after rejecting my brother and you don't even have a man in your life? What if he makes things difficult for you? You are old enough to start a family.” Her words made sense. What if that man thinks that I'm back to beg him to take me back? “ What about you? You are not married either." I countered but regretted my words immediately. Amanda chuckled bitterly. “ You Know my situation. I thought he was my mate but fate wasn't kind to me. He is married now and they are expecting a child.”
