The cab pulled up to a house Alyssa hadn't laid eyes on in years. The weather-beaten iron gate was tinged with rust, and the once pristine garden now bore signs of neglect. She drew in a deep breath, feeling the weight of the suitcase in her hands and an even heavier burden in her chest. "All paid up," she muttered to the driver, resisting the urge to look at the house for a few more moments. When she finally raised her gaze, she saw Samuel standing in the doorway, arms folded, face stern, but with an expression she couldn't decipher.
