The Thing That Refused to Die The roar did not fade. It traveled. Across mountains and valleys, through shattered wards and broken ley lines, the sound rolled like a living force—raw, feral, and defiant. It carried no command, no hierarchy, no ancient Alpha dominance. It carried will. Aria felt it slam into the fracture like a battering ram. The shadows dragging her toward the First Hunger recoiled violently, unraveling as if burned by something they did not understand. The pressure crushing her chest eased just enough for her to gasp. “That voice…” she whispered, suspended between worlds. The First Hunger’s vast eye narrowed, its light dimming slightly. Impossible, it murmured. Below, Ridge staggered forward, blood still pouring freely from the wound that should have killed him.
