Ridge staggered backward, his body trembling violently. Frost and molten Heartfire erupted across his skin, the lattice around him shivering under the assault of the shadow. Every thread of his connection to the world, the ley lines, and Aria strained to the breaking point. The shadow that had detached from the primordial entity moved with impossible speed, striking with precision, targeting the Heartfire core that anchored him, the very essence of his being.
