Zariah stood by the door with her duffel bag in hand. She expected a cold goodbye or a handcuff. Instead, Dominic handed her a clean ID badge. “Effective today, you’re no longer a maid,” he said. “You’re my personal assistant.” Zariah’s hands shook. “Why are you doing this?” “Because I don’t believe in wasting talent. And I don’t believe in accidents. You came here for answers. Let’s see if you’re strong enough to handle them.” The first day was a blur—board meetings, tech briefings, strategy calls. Dominic didn’t treat her like a criminal. He didn’t smile either. Just gave her task after task, watching her like a puzzle he hadn’t figured out. At lunch, she sat alone. At dinner, he worked through it. Still, she caught him glancing at her more than once—confused, thoughtful. That night, she snuck into the archives and copied more encrypted logs. Her father’s name was everywhere—but the pieces didn’t make sense. If Dominic was the thief, why did these records look… messy? Why was her father the one hiding funds in an offshore trust—in her name? She felt the ground shift beneath her. Something wasn’t adding up.
