ROSE POV
I confided in Anna, my friend, about the contract and Adrian's proposal.
I expected her to be outraged on my behalf, but instead, she scolded me.
"Rose, are you crazy? Many girls would kill to be proposed to by a billionaire! You're complaining about being offered a life of luxury?"
I shook my head.
"It's not about the money, Anna. It's about being treated like a possession, not a person."
Anna sighed.
"Fine, but what's your plan? You can't just magic up the money to pay him back."
I thought for a moment.
"Do you know of any job openings? I need something that will pay well, and fast."
Anna nodded.
"Actually, I used to work as a waitress at a restaurant downtown. It's shift work, but the tips are good. I can talk to the owner about getting you hired."
I grasped at the opportunity.
"That sounds perfect. I'll start as soon as possible. I close at 7 pm today, and I'll head straight there."
Anna raised an eyebrow.
"You're really willing to work yourself to the bone just to avoid being his bride?"
I nodded firmly.
"It's better than losing myself in an inconvenient I'd rather work hard and earn my freedom than be beholden to Adrian's whims."
Anna smiled, a hint of admiration in her eyes.
"You're stronger than I thought, Rose. Let's get you hired."
....
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually enjoyed my new job as a waitress.
The fast-paced environment and constant interaction with customers kept me on my toes.
But, oh, the exhaustion that came with it!
My shift started at 7:30 pm and ended at 10:30 pm, leaving me drained by the time I got home.
My feet ached, my back hurt, and all I wanted to do was collapse onto my bed. But I couldn't afford to rest yet.
I still had to count my tips and calculate how much closer I was to paying off Adrian's contract.
It wasn't easy, and some nights I felt like giving up. But every time I thought about being tied to Adrian, I found the strength to keep going.
I was determined to earn my freedom, no matter how hard it got.
As the days were running, I started to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I was doing this!
I was taking control of my life and making progress, no matter how small.
But, despite my confidence, the numbers weren't adding up as quickly as I'd hoped.
I was still far from gathering enough money to bail myself out of Adrian's contract.
The thought sent a pang of anxiety through my chest, but I pushed it aside. I couldn't afford to doubt myself now. I had to keep moving forward, no matter what.
Then it happened again,,,
It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend, with only a short shift at the restaurant from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
But, of course, Adrian had other plans. He called me Saturday morning, his voice firm and commanding.
"Rose, I need you to come to my house. I have some work that needs attention."
I hesitated, feeling a surge of frustration. Can't he see I'm trying to escape him?
But, I knew I couldn't say no. His job was still my highest-paying gig, and I needed the money.
"Okay, I'll be there," I replied, trying to sound neutral.
I arrived at his house, wondering what kind of "work" he had in mind.
But, as I entered his opulent living room, I saw the truth. He needed me to do his laundry, specifically his dry cleaning for Monday.
"Does a PA usually do this?" I asked, trying to hide my annoyance.
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "You're my PA, Rose. You do what I need you to do."
I felt a twinge of resentment, but I knew I had to comply.
I spent the next few hours sorting his clothes most were never worn, taking them to the dry cleaner, and running other errands for him.
Typically, ' Unnecessary errands! '
As the day went on, I realized I had to skip my shift at the restaurant.
I'd have to come up with an excuse for my boss, maybe something about a family emergency.
But, deep down, I knew Adrian did this on purpose. He wanted to keep me under his control, to remind me that I was still tied to him.
As I left his house, I felt a mix of emotions: frustration, resentment, and a hint of fear.
What else would he ask me to do? And how could I escape this toxic dynamic?
....
ADRIAN POV
I smiled to myself as I thought about the latest move I'd made to ensure Rose's compliance.
I had paid a visit to her restaurant boss, slipping him a substantial sum of money to guarantee her termination.
"Incompetence," I had said, shaking my head.
"She's a liability. You don't want someone like that working for you." I manipulated somewhat like the money in front of him had hypnotized him.
He had nodded eagerly, no doubt tempted by the cash and the promise of a favor from a wealthy and influential man like myself.
I knew it wouldn't be hard to get her fired. Rose was already struggling to balance her two jobs, and with a few subtle manipulations, I could make it seem like she was failing at both.
And now, with no job and no income, she would have nowhere to turn but to me. I would be her savior, her only hope.
She would have to accept my proposal, and soon she would be mine.
The thought sent a thrill through me. I had always gotten what I wanted, and I would stop at nothing to make Rose mine.
She would learn to obey me, to surrender to my every whim.
I leaned back in my chair, steepling my fingers together as I contemplated my next move.
Rose thought she had a way out, but I had just closed the last door. Soon, she would realize that I was her only option.
....
I raised an eyebrow at Daniel's refusal to fire Rose.
"Come on, Daniel. Don't be soft. I need her to focus on her duties as my PA."
Daniel chuckled.
"You're not going to get me to do your bidding that easily, Adrian. Besides, Rose is a great employee. You're just trying to get rid of her because she's not falling for your charms."
I grinned.
"Maybe a little. But seriously, Daniel. I need her to take me seriously. And if she's not working at the restaurant, she'll have more time to devote to me."
Daniel shook his head, laughing.
"You're something else, Adrian, you even had her fired from her side hustle? But I'm not going to fire her. Maybe you should just try asking her out like a normal person."
I rolled my eyes. "Where's the fun in that ?"
I added.
"And Rose is a tough one".
I finally agreed through gritted tooth.
