One More Chance At Love

.... ADRIAN POV I couldn't help but notice the change in Rose's behavior lately. She would yawn in my presence, even during important meetings, and seemed to be distant, as if her mind was elsewhere. I found it amusing, thinking to myself, "She's finally realizing her fate." With only two days left before the contract becomes binding, I was confident that Rose would never be able to pay me the amount she owed. And when that happens, she would be mine. The thought sent a thrill through me. She should just give up already. But my triumph was short-lived, as my informant burst into my office, a sly grin spreading across his face. "You won't believe what I just found out, sir," he said, barely containing his excitement. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What is it?" "Rose is working at a night bar, sir. As a bartender." My expression darkened, anger rising within me. How dare she? She was supposed to be focused on finding a way to pay me, not slinging drinks at some lowly bar. The thought of her smiling, laughing, and flirting with strangers made my blood boil. "Find out everything you can about this bar and her schedule," I growled, my mind racing with ways to use this new information to my advantage. This was not going to end well for Rose. Not well at all. I think I need to rock a bar tonight. .... ROSE POV I tried to maintain my composure as the men's behavior became increasingly inappropriate. I had dealt with difficult customers before, but this was different. They seemed to be intentionally trying to make me uncomfortable, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Just as I was about to serve their drinks, one of them reached out to grab my ass. But before he could make contact, a strong hand clamped down on his wrist, stopping him in his tracks. I turned to see Adrian, my boss, standing there, his eyes blazing with anger. Without a word, Adrian began to take down the men, one by one. He moved with a swift and deadly precision, his fists flying in a blur of motion. The men didn't stand a chance against him, and soon they were all lying on the ground, groaning in pain. The bar fell silent, with all eyes on Adrian and the c*****e he had wrought. I stood there, frozen in shock, unsure of what to make of what I had just witnessed. For a moment, I felt a surge of gratitude towards him. He had saved me again, just like he had in the past. But then my mind kicked in, and I remembered our complicated history. I recalled the way he had manipulated me, used me for his own gain. And now, I suspected that he was behind this too, trying to get me fired again. "Why are you here, Adrian?" I asked, my voice cold, my eyes narrowing. Adrian's expression was unreadable, but I could sense a hint of surprise in his voice. "I just happened to be in the area, Rose. I saw what was going on and decided to intervene." I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "Save it, Adrian. I know your games. You're just trying to get me fired again, aren't you?" Adrian's face darkened, his jaw clenched. "Rose, I—" But I cut him off, my anger boiling over. "Just leave, Adrian. I can handle myself." I stormed out angrily and my mind flooded with who is behind these dirty schemes? .... Loathing myself for the vulnerability, I trudged through the dark parking lot, my feet heavy with exhaustion. The bar's neon lights faded into the distance as I struggled to hold back tears. Why was he doing this? Why now, after all the heartbreak and humiliation? Suddenly, Adrian's sleek black car screeched to a halt beside me, and he leapt out, his eyes burning with an intensity that made my heart race. "Rose, wait," he commanded, his voice low and husky. I spun around, my defenses crumbling. "Why are you doing this, Adrian? You've been so cold, so distant. What game are you playing now?" His eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw something there, something raw and unguarded. Then, in a flash, he was on me, his lips crushing mine in a kiss that left me breathless. I tried to push him away, but he held me fast, his arms like steel bands around me. "Because I love you," he whispered, his words sending shivers down my spine. I felt like I was drowning, like the world was spinning out of control. Love? From Adrian? It couldn't be true. And yet... His lips moved against mine, slow and sensual, sending waves of pleasure through me. I felt my resolve melting, my heart betraying me. "No," I whispered, trying to tear myself away. But Adrian held me close, his grip unyielding. "Rose, I know I've hurt you," he whispered, his breath hot against my ear. "But I promise you, this time it's different. I'll do anything to make it right." I felt myself getting lost in his eyes, in the depths of his passion. Could I trust him? Could I risk everything for one more chance at love?
