ROSE POV
Anna has been nothing but a negative influence.
I got drunk and woke up this morning by the help of God and Noel's Sonic Screamer Alarm I would have been late on my second working day.
What blind date is he talking about now?
I remembered not having any conversation on schedules or whatever --
Wait! Now I remembered, I had vague memory about an email was it the Boss who sent me an email?
Oh no! This is not good.
I stuttered trying to find my voice as I smiled weirdly,
"Yes! Yes ! Yes of course".
He wore an impassive look, not seeming to buy the lie because I did not read any email.
"Coffee sir?".
I asked, looking for a way to swoop out and fix my mess.
You're a dead meat, Anna!
"Oh, lemon tea". I corrected myself and swooped out of his office.
I ran towards my cabin which I have tidied up this morning and scanning my laptop for an email from my boss.
My eyes popped,
It was a whole lot;
Schedule a call with marketing by EOD
Book a room for the team meeting at 2 PM
Remind me the about the conference call at 10 AM and prepare a keynote speech before then for the upcoming industry trend
Cancel the meeting with the designer and fix me a blind date by 7PM
The last message was amusing!
I have a dating app, I could easily fix that.
And a keynote speech?
Industry trend?
I just started working, this is almost a mission impossible.
I banged my head on my desk.
ADRIAN POV
After mischievously deleting the previous email and sending her a new one which is more treacherous.
I smiled triumphantly at myself.
Someone needs to teach her what professionalism is.
And I'll be a fine teacher for that.
Finally, Daniel later sent me her background.
Nah! I'm not interested in her or anything , I need to protect myself and my investment.
Age 25:
Ah! 25. A mere child. I was running a successful business at her age.
Personal life: Active on social media, close with family;
'Ugh'. Social media? A waste of time. And close with family? How....beneath me.
She'll need to leave that nonsense at the door if she wants to work for me.
Hobbies: writing
'tsk'. A quaint little hobby.
I keep scanning through but a caption caught my attention.
Marital Status:
Single but with a child.
'Oh'. A single mom? How.... amusing.
She's probably just grateful to have a job; any job. I'm doing her a favor and she'll be
desperate to do whatever I say whenever I said it.
ROSE POV
I called him for the conference call he will be having any moments soon but he had some cunningly smiles dancing on his lips.
More like he's up to something evil, I waved it off.
I felt a bit confident because I've prepared the best keynote speech I could in a jiffy.
As I stepped into the conference room walking closely behind the Boss, I was immediately intimidated by the sea of stern faces before me.
The board members and staff were seated around the massive wooden table, their expressions skeptical except Anna's who had a narrow smile on her thin lips.
I gave her a death glare.
'Im going to kill you when I get home '.
With high ceilings and walls lined to floor-to-ceiling windows that seems to stretch up to the sky allowing the sunrays lighten up the room making everything feel sleek and modern.
Sir Adrian's chair at the head of the table seemed like a throne as he took the seat and everyone rose to greet him.
,,,
Time to deliver his keynote speech as I quickly sent him via email.
He got the message and glanced at his positioned laptop, but his facial expression was impassive.
His following words stunned me,
"Ms. Clifton, will you do the honor of reading the keynote speech?''.
I stood at the podium, my heart racing as I began my keynote speech.
I had poured my heart and soul into it, crafting every word and phrase to inspire and motivate even if I'd gotten the memo in the least minute.
And then the laughter started. At first it was a snicker from the end of the room, but soon it spread like wildfire, until the entire room was in stitches.
I felt my face burn with embarrassment and shame.
Anna and Daniel wore curious look.
The boss laughter was the loudest, (the initiator) , his eyes gleaming with mockery as he looked at me,
"This is what you came up with? This is what you wanted me to address to my subordinates?".
He sneered, his voice dripping with disdain.
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out me.
I tried to speak to defend my work, but the words caught in my throat.
The echoing sound of the laughter made me feel like a fool standing in the crowd.
"This isn't even close to what I expected. It's..... amateurish".
He snapped.
I wanted to run, but my legs felt like lead rooting me to the spot.
I was trapped, tears stung my eyes as I was forced to endure the ridicule and scorn of my boss and colleagues.
