CHAPTER 23:PREGNANCY CHANGES

KIARA'S POV
Something was wrong, I had tried to ignore it at first.Everyone expected me to be tired.
After all, I was pregnant.But this wasn't normal.Every day, I felt weaker.Every day, I struggled to get out of bed.Even simple things exhausted me.The twins were growing too fast.And my body was paying the price.
I sat on the edge of the bed, trying to catch my breath after merely changing my clothes.
"Seriously?" I muttered, rubbing my stomach. "Could you two stop trying to kill your mother before you're even born?"
Kick.
I smiled weakly.
"Don't sass me."
Another kick.
Despite how awful I felt, I couldn't help smiling.
They were my babies.
And I loved them more than anything but I was scared.Because I could feel it.
Something was changing.My appetite had disappeared.I was always dizzy,My body constantly ached.And every night, strange dreams haunted me,Dreams of blood.,Dreams of fire,Dreams of death.
I had barely slept.
The bedroom door opened and Kael walked in.
Immediately, his smile vanished.
"Kiara?"
I tried to smile.
"I'm fine."
His eyebrows rose.
"Terrible liar."
He crossed the room in seconds.His expression darkened when he touched my forehead.
"You're burning up."
"I'm not."
"Kiara."
"I'm just tired."
"You nearly collapsed walking to the bathroom."
"I didn't collapse."
His eyes narrowed.
"You fell into the laundry basket."
I looked away.
"Details."
He sighed heavily.
"I'm getting the witch doctor."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Kiara."
"No."
"Kiara."
I glared.
He glared back.
The twins kicked.
And somehow, we both looked down at my stomach.
Kael pointed accusingly.
"Tell your mother she's being stubborn."
I burst out laughing.
"You are unbelievable."
"I'm serious."
He kissed my forehead.
"I'm worried."
The softness in his voice made my heart ache.
"I know."
His hand rested on my stomach.
"I know you're trying to be strong but you don't have to do everything alone."
Tears filled my eyes.
"I'm scared."
Immediately, he wrapped his arms around me.
"I know."
"What if something happens to them?"
"Nothing will."
"What if something happens to me?"
His entire body froze.
I immediately regretted saying it because fear entered his eyes.
Real fear.
"Don't say that."
"Kael—"
"Don't."
His voice cracked.
"Please."
Tears filled his eyes.
"I can't lose you."
My heart shattered.
"You won't."
"You don't know that."
His arms tightened around me.
"I just found you….I just fell in love with you."
"Our babies haven't even been born yet."
His voice broke.
"So don't talk like that."
I buried my face in his chest.
"I'm sorry."
He kissed my hair.
"I'd burn down the world before I let anything happen to you."
I laughed softly through my tears.
"That's concerning."
"I'm serious."
"I know."
Suddenly
Pain.
Sharp and unexpected.
I gasped.
Kael immediately stiffened.
"Kiara?"
Another wave hit me.
I grabbed my stomach.
"Kael…"
Fear consumed him.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know."
The room spun…Everything became blurry.
And then…
Darkness.
KAEL'S POV
"KIARA!"
My heart stopped when her body collapsed.I caught her before she hit the floor.Panic unlike anything I had ever experienced exploded inside me.
"Kiara!"
No response.
"Kiara!"
Nothing.
Fear gripped my soul.
"NO!"
I gathered her in my arms.
"Someone!"
My voice shook the entire house.
"NOW!"
Footsteps thundered through the hall.Chloe burst through the door.Then the witch doctor.And the second the old woman saw Kiara unconscious in my arms…
Her face lost all color.
"Oh no."
I looked at her desperately.
"What?"
Her eyes were fixed on Kiara's stomach.
And horror filled them.
"The children…"
My blood froze.
"What about them?"
Her voice trembled.
"They're feeding."
Silence.
"What?"
She swallowed hard.
"The twins are growing so quickly that they're draining their mother's strength."
My heart nearly stopped.
"No."
Terror gripped me.
"No."
"There has to be another way."
"There may be."
"Then find it!"
My voice cracked.
"I don't care what it takes…i don't care how impossible it is."
"Save her."
The witch doctor stared at me sadly.
"Alpha…"
"Save Kiara ."
"Save the babies ."
"Please."
And for the first time in my life i begged because I could survive anything.
War….pain…Death.
But I couldn't survive losing her.
And as I held Kiara's unconscious body against my chest…
Neither of us noticed Chloe standing silently in the corner,her face was pal and her eyes full of fear.
Because she knew something the others didn't.
The twins weren't merely growing.
They were awakening.
And once they fully awakened…
Nothing would ever be the same again.
