It wasn't exactly rude to not bow or look down in front of an alpha or someone from his family, but people did always treat them with respect and that meant not to glare at them.
Also... Omegas are supposed to be submissive so they usually always look down.
I went against my nature and instinct.
I stared him down.
Which of course was not to an alphas liking but with Alex it didn't matter because he was used to it by now. We were close just like siblings.
He smiled proudly at me as if he was my actual brother and I showed him something he'd taught me then he nod toward my plate.
"So... why so much food?"
"Mom refuse to eat until everyone has eaten and by the way these pigs are eating I assume there won't be any left."
His smile was changed into his serious face and he nod.
"Good thinking. She does look thinner again. Do you want me to ask her to eat with us?"
I shook my head.
"She would feel too ashamed to trouble you, you know that..."
He nod then grabbed the spoon from my hand and filled his plate with food too.
"Then let's eat fast and give her food as soon as possible."
I did like our alpha family, truly.
Alpha Anthony was a very kind man and his mate/luna Beatrice was a good motherly figure. They were like the stereotypical alpha couple and everyone loved them.
Their son Alex was very kind and understanding too, he got the perfect mixture of his parents and made everyone his friend.
We would be in good hands the day he found his mate and became alpha.
Since the family was so relaxed it would be a traditional alpha ceremony once he was ready, his father would step down and he would be the stronger one. He was already stronger by the looks of it but he didn't want the title until he had a luna.
An alpha is always the strongest with his luna by his side.
In other families it would probably not be like that. Because some packs don't care for each other like ours.
"So how's school?"
I sighed.
"Did you have to remind me?! I was sent to the principal again."
He laughed.
"What did you do this time?"
I mumbled my words angrily.
"My homework."
This was the relation Alex had with almost everyone, he was like their bigger brother. I loved that.
"You know Amber, if you do your homework and still be sent to the principal... you might as well not do your homework"
He winked and I couldn't help but laugh.
"I'll tell that to my teachers. Can I say hi from you?"
Right then Christopher arrived at our table and ruffled my hair when he passed by.
"I heard someone was teaching the pups that omegas are trash today"
I shook my head.
"No! I was going to have a motivational speech about being strong even if you're omega but Mrs, Dee didn't let me finish!"
They both laughed and I turned crimson. I always did when I got angry.
"Hey, Lulu, why so red?"
"Are they flirting with you?"
"That's gross! they're like superold!"
"Lulu, what did the big bad wolves do?"
Justin, James, Jimmy and Jonah had now taken their seats at our table and stared at me with michevious smiles.
They were all 24 because they were quadruplets, and if I had the chance to choose brothers it would be them.
I did hate their sister but they felt like family.
"Amber was sent to the principal again. Because she had a motivational speech for pups about omegas being trash"
Jonah and Jimmy laughed out loud, Justin shook his head and smiled while James looked worried.
"Lulu, don't think that about yourself, Omegas aren't trash! They are the reason packs exist! If we weren't here to protect omegas then we would be lone wolves."
That's not true but James liked to overreact.
"Noo my speech was meant to be about strength! Even if one are an omega, you can be strong if you want to be! Maybe not as strong as an alpha but you don't have to be weak all the time just because of a rank!"
That's when Jenny walked by and snorted.
"Try telling yourself that. loser"
""""Jenny leave!"""" Her brothers yelled in unison with angry looks.
That's also part why I love them, they don't like their sister either.
Jenny put her middle finger up toward me and left.
"Imagine that she will turn eighteen next month..."
"Ugh! don't remind me! I wish she met her mate in an other pack so we could be rid of her"
"She actually told dad that since she turned 18 she want a brand new car, can you imagine?! Dad asked where to get the money for that and she answered with"
"Just take it from the pack, I'm sure we have plenty"
"She may be our sister by blood but wow she's a spoiled b***h"
They all shook their heads in unison until everyone fell into thoughts about Jenny and how awful she was.
I remembered that she is gamma so if she were to mate it would either be with a strong delta, an other gamma from other packs, beta or even alpha... it wasn't that impossible.
I didn't want to think of her as Luna so I tried to change the subject but all I could think of was stupid, yet I said it and regretted it as soon as it left my lips.
"So... how's the mate finding going?!"
Everyone stiffened.
None of them had a mate which was odd, because usually you'd find your mate before turning twenty but that hadn't happen for them yet...
Alex was just about to say something but Jonah was first with a huge smirk.
"Well Lulu, you haven't turned eighteen yet so we just have to wait two more years."
This was a joke they used to make since we were young.
I am omega so it's close to physically impossible for me to become an epsilon. Usually they are gamma or beta born, if they are delta or zeta it will be difficult but with an omega it would be a horrible thing.
They liked to tease me because I accidentaly said it when i was six.
I met them right after my father passed, they had lost their mother that same day.
The burial for their mother was known by everyone and people came to them in order to show their condolences but no one came to me.
It was probably because mom was sick so she couldn't attend so they thought I would start to cry if they talked but I stood there watching everyone cry about their mother.
It made me angry.
My father was worth just as much as their mother but nobody seemed to notice that.
That's when I first met Alex and Christopher, they were only eleven when I met them but they were also the only ones except for the Alpha and Luna to acknowledge my fathers death.
"Sorry your father died."
Was all they said and me being young and not knowing them properly exploded and turned into a screaming wreck.
"SORRY MY FATHER DIED?! REALLY THAT'S ALL I GET?! A SORRY?!"
Everyone turned and stared in shock so I lowered my voice and glared at everyone.
"My father saved my life. He was a hero! He did more for you by killing that stupid rogue than you ever did to him and yet all you have is a shitty sorry?!"
I took the ribbon some stupid zeta had put in my hair and threw it on the ground.
"Screw being omega, screw all of you and screw the mean stupid rogues!"
I felt my tears burn so I ran away and left everyone dumbfounded.
The next time I would meet them was on a full moon that same year.
Normally a wolf would have it's first shift at age fifteen or sixteen, Alphas can shift earlier and betas too.
But according to our pack doctor some wolves can shift due to circumstances like an attack or fueled up anger from for example a great loss.
The earliest he had experienced was when Alex shifted at nine. The reason for that was because he would become a strong Alpha and his body was mature enough to have a wolf. This made everyone proud of our soon to be alpha.
But that moonlit night six wolves shifted and gave everyone a new subject to talk about. Normally wolves shift on their birthday but this time everyone shifted on the same day without it being anyone's birthday.
There was the quadruplets who shifted at age 13 just a month after their loss of their mother.
Then at that same night Christopher shifted at age eleven, the doctor think it was because of the attack and his beta body reacted to the threat. It meant he had great instincts and would become a strong beta.
Then, I shifted. At age five.
This was unheard of even for an alpha but as an omega it was close to impossible.
Some omegas are so weak that they never shift.
The doctor was stunned by this and had nothing to say.
Omegas shouldn't have that instinct after attacks and omegas shouldn't be affected by loss in that way. Because according to our stupid pack doctor, just like our bodies our feelings aren't as strong as normal wolves.
Everyone kept whispering and discussing if I might not be omega or if I was some kind of hybrid freak but that was just stupid.
That's when Alpha Anthony did something I'll never forget. He gathered everyone and told them his theory.
"Amber Louise Collins is the daughter of Thomas and Diana Collins. Both being omega this mean that Amber Louise also is omega, she isn't a hybrid or anything else but an omega."
He looked through the crowd then locked eyes with me.
"That being said, just because Amber Louise is omega doesn't mean she's not strong. We have all made up our minds that omegas are weak but I look forward seeing how strong she will prove to be when she grow up." He winked at me and raised his glass.
I knew from that day that I would have to make him proud.
I had to show everyone in the pack that he was right, I was going to be strong.
The fact that the six of us shifted at the same night was something not even Alpha could explain.
Luna Beatrice had one theory that she shared to me. She didn't go into detail but she talked about a legend.
The legend said that if more than one wolf shift for the first time at the same night on a full moon then that means that they are meant to be together, to fight side by side, they are fated.
That's why, when I was six years old, I let it slip to Jonah and the others about the fated part and they took it of course as if I said that we would be mates in the future.
They never forget to joke about it.
I finished my flashback and took a piece of bread from Jonah's plate.
"Sorry to disappoint but you'll probably find your mate soon and be like a little puppy around her." I took a bite from the bread and smirked "Also I intend on having an omega as my mate, that way I can have a sidekick who'll show everyone that omega's can be strong, besides, we will show everyone that omega bonds can be just as strong as..."
Growls interupted me and made me jump in my chair.
Just as I was about to ask what happened Alpha Anthony and Luna Beatrice stood right behind Alex with a look that made me want to run.
