Chapter 5: Temptation’s Edge Lena gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles turning white. Her heart was still racing from that kiss. The second kiss. It had been more than just a mistake. More than just an old flame reigniting. It had been a choice. And that terrified her. She sucked in a deep breath, staring up at the apartment building where Ryan was waiting for her. The man who loved her. The man who trusted her. But as she sat there, Damian’s scent still lingering on her skin, his taste still on her lips, she realized— She wasn’t ready to let go of him. What the hell am I doing? Before she could think any further, her phone buzzed. A message. She already knew who it was. Damian: Come back to me, Lena. You don’t belong in his arms. Her chest tightened. She should block his number. She should delete the message, walk upstairs, and pretend that tonight never happened. But she didn’t. Instead, she typed— Lena: I can’t. The reply was instant. Damian: Then why are you still sitting in your car? Her breath hitched. She turned her head slowly, scanning the darkened street— And there he was. Leaning against his car across the road, his eyes locked onto hers like a predator waiting for his prey. Her pulse skidded. This was dangerous. And yet, she opened the car door. --- A Night of Reckless Passion Lena didn’t know how she ended up in Damian’s penthouse. One moment, she was staring at him across the street, battling the war inside her. The next, she was stepping into the dimly lit elegance of his home, her breath shallow, her body humming with tension. Damian shut the door behind her, his eyes never leaving hers. “You’re here.” She swallowed hard. “I shouldn’t be.” He took slow, deliberate steps toward her. “Then why did you come?” She had no answer. Or maybe she had too many. Her heart hammered as he reached for her, his fingers brushing her cheek, trailing down her arm. His touch was electric, sending a shiver through her body. “Lena,” he murmured, tilting her chin up. “Tell me to stop.” But she didn’t. Because she couldn’t. And then he kissed her. This kiss was nothing like the ones before. It was desperate, raw, filled with years of longing and unspoken emotions. Lena gasped as Damian lifted her off the ground, her legs instinctively wrapping around his waist. He carried her to the couch, laying her down beneath him, his hands exploring, his lips devouring. His touch set her on fire. Every brush of his fingers, every stolen breath made her forget who she was supposed to be. Made her forget Ryan. Here, in this moment, she belonged to Damian. She always had. “Tell me you don’t want this,” he whispered against her lips, his voice thick with desire. She closed her eyes, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She should say it. She should end this. But when her eyes met his again, filled with so much passion, so much love— She whispered, “I want this.” And that was all it took. Damian claimed her with a hunger that sent her spiraling into pure, reckless ecstasy. --- The Aftermath Lena woke up tangled in Damian’s sheets, his arms wrapped tightly around her. Sunlight streamed through the massive windows, illuminating the evidence of their betrayal. Her heart clenched. What had she done? Damian stirred beside her, pressing a lazy kiss to her shoulder. “Morning, beautiful.” She turned her head slightly, taking in his messy hair, his dark eyes still filled with sleep. God, he was beautiful. And he had always been her weakness. But reality came crashing down like a tidal wave. Ryan. Her fiancé. Her future. She sat up abruptly, pulling the sheets around her. “I have to go.” Damian’s expression darkened. “Lena—” “I mean it,” she said, her voice unsteady. “This… this was a mistake.” He sat up too, his gaze locking onto hers. “Was it?” Her throat tightened. She wanted to say yes. But she couldn’t. And he knew it. “Lena,” he whispered, reaching for her hand. “You don’t love him the way you love me. You never have.” Tears burned her eyes. “It doesn’t matter. I made a commitment.” Damian exhaled sharply. “To who? A man you don’t truly love?” She flinched. “Ryan is good to me.” His jaw tensed. “But does he make your heart race? Does he make you feel alive?” Lena looked away, her silence giving him the answer. Damian sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t go back to him, Lena. Stay with me.” Her heart screamed yes. But her mind whispered no. She stood, grabbing her clothes and quickly dressing. “I can’t, Damian.” His expression was unreadable. But as she turned to leave, his voice stopped her. “This isn’t over,” he said softly. Lena closed her eyes for a moment before walking out the door— And stepping back into a life that no longer felt like hers. To be continued...........
