CHAPTER 6: THE ECHO OF HIS TOUCH

1050 Words
Chapter 6: The Echo of His Touch Lena sat in the back of a cab, staring out the window, her reflection blurred against the glass. The city lights flashed past her in streaks of gold and red, but all she could see—all she could feel—was Damian. His touch. His lips. The way he had whispered her name like a prayer, like she was the only thing that had ever mattered. A shiver ran down her spine as she clenched her fingers against her lap, her body still aching from the night before. But no amount of distance could erase what she had done. She had betrayed Ryan. And now, she had to face him. --- A Lover’s Embrace, A Guilty Heart The apartment was dark when she stepped inside, the air thick with silence. Ryan must still be asleep. She shut the door softly, toeing off her heels, but before she could take another step, a voice cut through the silence. “You’re late.” Lena froze. Ryan stood in the dim glow of the kitchen, a glass of whiskey in his hand. His eyes, normally filled with warmth, were sharp. Her stomach twisted. Did he know? She forced a smile, hoping her face didn’t betray her. “I—lost track of time.” Ryan studied her, his gaze drifting over her slightly disheveled hair, the faint mark Damian had left on her collarbone. A mark she had failed to cover. Panic flickered in her chest, but before she could react, Ryan sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Lena… are you happy?” The question caught her off guard. She opened her mouth to answer, but the words stuck to the back of her throat. Was she happy? With Ryan? With this life? The silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. Ryan exhaled. “I don’t want to lose you.” Her heart clenched. This was the moment she should come clean. The moment she should tell him the truth. But instead, she walked toward him, slipping her arms around his waist, resting her head against his chest. His heartbeat was steady. Familiar. Unlike the chaotic, wild rhythm of her pulse when she was with Damian. “I love you, Ryan,” she whispered. A lie. And yet, she held onto him like saying the words could make them real. Like they could erase Damian’s touch. --- A Call That Changes Everything The next morning, Lena woke up tangled in Ryan’s arms. For a brief moment, she let herself believe that she could forget Damian. That she could pretend the past never happened. But the universe had other plans. Her phone buzzed against the nightstand. Sleepily, she reached for it— And froze. Damian: Meet me tonight. Her breath hitched. As if sensing her tension, Ryan stirred beside her, pressing a lazy kiss to her shoulder. “Morning, beautiful.” Lena forced a smile, slipping her phone under the pillow before turning to him. “Morning.” He brushed a strand of hair from her face. “You seem distracted.” You have no idea. She kissed him softly. “Just thinking about work.” Ryan grinned, trailing his fingers down her arm. “I can think of better things to do than work.” Lena swallowed, guilt clawing at her chest. But even as Ryan pulled her closer, even as she let herself get lost in the warmth of his touch— Her mind was already with Damian. --- A Dangerous Game That night, Lena told Ryan she was working late. And then she went to him. Damian was waiting at their old spot—a secluded rooftop overlooking the city, where they had once whispered dreams of forever. The moment she saw him, her breath caught. Dressed in a fitted black shirt, his sleeves rolled up, he looked effortlessly devastating. But it was his eyes—smoldering, knowing—that made her knees weak. She should have stayed away. But she didn’t. She couldn’t. “You came,” Damian murmured, stepping closer. Lena swallowed hard. “This is the last time.” A smirk ghosted his lips. “You’ve said that before.” Her pulse skidded. “I mean it.” Damian reached for her, his fingers brushing against her wrist, sending electricity racing up her skin. “If you really meant it,” he whispered, “you wouldn’t be here.” Her resolve wavered. Because he was right. Before she could say anything, Damian cupped her face, his thumb grazing her bottom lip. “Tell me, Lena… does he kiss you like I do?” Her breathing turned shallow. “Damian—” “Does he make you tremble?” His lips hovered over hers, teasing, taunting. “Does he make your heart race the way I do?” Lena shuddered. He didn’t need an answer. Because her body was already betraying her. With a low groan, Damian crushed his lips against hers, pulling her into the kind of kiss that stole the air from her lungs. A kiss that ruined her all over again. Her fingers tangled in his hair, her body molding against his as heat exploded between them. He backed her against the edge of the rooftop, his hands tracing every inch of her, memorizing her all over again. Lena whimpered as his lips trailed down her neck, his touch possessive, relentless. “You’re mine, Lena,” he murmured against her skin. Tears burned behind her eyelids because, for the first time— She couldn’t deny it. She had never stopped belonging to him. And that truth could destroy everything. --- The Breaking Point Hours later, as she slipped back into Ryan’s apartment, the weight of her betrayal crushed her. She stood in the bathroom, gripping the sink, staring at her reflection. Her lips were swollen. Her skin still burned from Damian’s touch. Her heart was no longer her own. It never had been. A tear slid down her cheek. Because deep down, she knew— She couldn’t keep lying. Not to Ryan. Not to herself. And especia lly not to Damian. Something had to give. And soon. Because she was standing at the edge of temptation— And she was already falling. To be continued...........
