“I see you’ve brought a friend,” Ka’id said when she noticed the trio clambering down the narrow tunnel to the main chamber. The other Kalis eyed Ka’id in what might have been surprise, but didn’t struggle as they plopped her down without ceremony next to the cold remnants of the fire. Syrina squatted next to her, while Kirin moved over to Ka’id’s side to watch. Syrina turned to her companions. “You want to ask anything?” “No,” Ka’id said, a brief smile on her lips. “You seem to have everything well under control. Please proceed.” Syrina glanced at Kirin, but the Kalis sitting by her master didn’t say anything, and Syrina couldn’t read her expression under the tattoos, so she turned her attention back to their prisoner. “I’m going to take off your gag, and we’re going to talk, right?”
