11 MANN’S TREASURE The same two men had interviewed Ka’id every day, asking the same questions while drinking tea in her room at the Bower house. Syrina was surprised the whole thing had been so cordial, but as Ka’id said, she was a well-connected woman who’d committed no crime, and it wouldn’t have done for the Church’s public image to imprison and torture her for information they weren’t even sure she had. Ka’id didn’t know who they were, but she could describe them in detail, which was good enough for Syrina. One was a tall, thin man with wispy red hair and a bushy mustache. The other was equally thin, but shorter than red, and had a shaved head and bushy black beard. Both had cold, grey-blue eyes. Ka’id saw them at the Bower House most days, even on the few they didn’t meet with her
