The officer steps forward and stands next to the dog that hasn't moved a muscle. Raymond's nod gave me the confirmation that she has the drugs on her. My mother is still pressed tightly against the wall with her eyes focused on the dog. I see relief flash on my mother's face at the officers' presence. She must think that he is there to remove the dog. She has no idea that the dog is actually giving them a signal.
"Mrs. Coleman, we are going to need to search your bags and person. The K-9 officer is indicating that you have drugs on you," Raymond says. My mother's face pales and I can see she is already trying to think of a way out of this. It's a face I know well. "I know my rights. You can't search me without evidence," my mother says smugly.
