What could possibly have hit the windshield with enough force to break it— And oh God, where was the venomous snake whose bite had already killed several people? I opened my eyes in panic, frantic to lift my legs up onto my seat. Surveying the inside of the car for a dangerous animal that we had no antivenom for, because the species had never been captured in this area before— It took a few adrenaline-filled seconds, during which I couldn’t spot any reptilian body ready to lunge at me or Gabriela, before I realized the snake wasn’t inside the car with us.
