Chapter 8 - The Beginning of the End

Alysia

Over the next few weeks, me and Jason got closer. He would work the same shifts as me even offering to help me close up when my mom needed some time off and if we didn't work the same shifts he would always be outside to make sure I got home safe. Since we had a few classes together, he started taking lunch with me in the library, and walked me to all my classes. Priya just went with it and had asked me if anything was going on but there really wasn't anything going on between us. Sometimes we would watch the same shows and movies and hang out together eating late night snacks. It was nice to do this since Kal has been busy with Football and girls which I know pisses off Priya. My two sisters rooms were empty and my mom converted one into a home office and the other into a storage room to put extra supplies or things she is working on. Usually her and Alex uses the upstairs living room area to watch movies so I stick to downstairs living room especially since I will be closer to the kitchen. 

I was finishing up my shift at the restaurant on a Tuesday when my mom came out her office. "Alysia, I need you and Jason to close this weekend. Alex has a surprise trip planned and tells me at the last minute. Since its the end of the month I will need you to do inventory. We are leaving Friday afternoon so come straight here after school and Jason will meet Alex to go over what he needs to finish on the farm. He will come in around 8 and work with you until close. Since business is picking up you can close at 2 am. Saturday we won't open till 10 am and you can decided to close at either 2 am or 3 am. and Jason will handle the farm in the morning and come here around 7 pm and Sunday we will open at 8 am until 8 pm. I usually give Jason off on Sundays but I have asked him to come in around Lunchtime and stay till close. I have already asked Claudia to open Sunday. I hate asking for you to work long shifts. I will need you to do Inventory on Sunday and you can come in around 11 am Sunday and Jason will cover your shift while you do that.", my mom said looking frazzled. I put the dishes down that I had and went and hugged her. "you have nothing to worry about, this isn't my first time handling the restaurant. I need you to go away with Alex and just focus on you yourself and be at peace. and even though I HATE inventory I will do it for you" I said as I gave her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled and for once she looked happy. "you have your keys and use my office for any paperwork you need. and everyone knows your in charge. I know you probably know this place better than I do. I owe you and Jason and please make sure you guys get home safe and let me know when your home." she said giving me a kiss on my head. I watched as she disappeared probably trying to get as much done before she left on Friday. 

As I walked outside, I saw Jason waiting for me on the bench next door. 

"So I was thinking we could have a movie night. Alex said he is going to pick up your mom and take her to go dancing in the next town." Jason said as he walked beside me. 

"That's sweet of him and then he is taking her away for the weekend." I said laughing. 

"yea, I guess she has been stressed since your sisters haven't been showing up for their shifts. and needs a much needed break. He said tomorrow we would go over what needed to be done at the farm for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday." Jason said. 

I explained to Jason the schedule my mom told me and decided since we would be busy working this weekend we could have movie night even though we had school tomorrow. I had invited Kal and Priya to join but Priya had to babysit her brother and Kal was grounded for getting an F on his test. 

We decided to watch some scary movie and I am a big chicken when it comes to watching scary movies but I wasn't going to tell him that. We sat next to each other on the couch and shared popcorn and I definitely felt our legs touching . An hour into the movie my eyes felt heavy and the next thing I knew I fell asleep. 

Jason

We were watching a scary movie and the next thing I know I feel Alysia's head leaned against my shoulder and she was lightly snoring. I didn't dare move because I have dreamed of this moment for so long. I slowly put my arms around her shoulders and leaned into the corner of the couch so she was more laying on the couch and watched the remaining movie before I fell asleep. 

Alysia

I felt hands around me and like I was laying on someone. I slowly opened my eyes and took in my surroundings. The last thing I remember was watching a movie and I must have dozed off. I was slanted laying on the couch, no I was laying on someone who smelled like the woods and ocean combined. I shifted and looked up and was met with Jason's face as his eyes slowly opened. We stared at one other as if time stood still. Neither of us moving or wanting to move. I know he felt the change in the air because this was something we both have been avoiding. 

(car door slams) My eyes widened when I looked the clock and saw 2:07 am. My mom and Alex must have just got home. When Jason realized it too. We both jumped up, well we tried to. I rolled and we fell on the floor. He helped me up and I grabbed the popcorn bowl and put it in the sank and ran so fast upstairs. I heard his door close right before I closed mine. I laid in bed waiting to hear if my mom knew or heard us. All I heard was giggling from her and Alex telling her to ssshh. I looked out my window at the full moon and thought to myself what just happened. Would our friendship get weird or would it be more? My birthday was coming up and I would be 16. I told myself to focus because I had goals to accomplish before falling for anyone. 

Jason

I felt her stir in my arms and as I opened my eyes and looked down I locked eyes with her. I felt my heart beating out of my chest. Everyday I got closer to her, I found it harder to want to leave at the end of the school year. I heard a car door slam and her say oh s**t under her breathe. She tried to get up but fell on the floor. I helped her up and ran for my room as she ran for hers. When I closed my door I heard a door slam upstairs and not even a second later I heard Alex helping her mom up the stairs. I am pretty sure if they didn't come home we would've kissed, not I am not sure I know for a fact. I don't know whats going on but I can't stay away from her. and I couldn't help but wonder if she felt the same way. There were close moments between us lately and I needed answers sooner rather than later.
