Daydreams

540 Words
While Wayne is making all the arrangements she asked for, he refuses to leave her. She tells him to make all the meals for two. He blushes and a smile creeps across his face. Her heart begins to race. He returns to his arrangements.  Her mind drifts off to a beautiful spring afternoon, by the lake. They seem to be the only two people there. Then she sees a tiny baby and a little red-headed toddler. Jean walks to the baby and picks her up. She looks like a blend of Wayne with her beautiful brown eyes and his strong cheeks, and herself with her red hair and striking jawline. Her heart was all aflutter as she thinks to herself, these are OUR children. The toddler comes running to her at that moment calling “Mommy, look what I caught!” He was also a blend of Wayne and herself. He had her red hair with her blue eyes and her nose. But he so resembled Wayne that it took her breath away. He was carrying a little fish on a string and his father was walking to her right behind him. As she looks up at him, she sees how proud he is of their son.  Jean snaps out of her daydream. Wayne is sitting next to the bed with the same look of love and pride he had in her vision. She could only smile at him very sweetly while she thought that he will find her vision a very funny one. As their dinner arrives, Wayne goes to retrieve them. He tenderly places her tray in front of Jean. It has been an hour and the doctors and nurses have given her plenty of hydration as her color has returned, she is acting more like herself. He has seen her drift off in thought. She is so peaceful and happy there. He wonders what she is thinking about. The two enjoy their dinner together. Normally, he just grabs something quick before he goes on about his business. He hadn’t realized how enjoyable it was to have a conversation with someone while sharing a meal. He finds his own mind wandering off to the idea that this could be his life. He wants to have his meals filled with sharing his time with her. He wanted to wake up every morning to her beautiful face and to go to sleep with her each night. How can he be thinking like this? She is his boss. As much as he loves this beautiful creature before him, he knows that there is no way he will ever be more than her employee. She had only said she loved him due to her condition, he is sure of it. He knows it is wrong of him to take advantage of the situation, but he wants it to be real. How is he going to deal when she is fully back to herself and she realizes the mistake she has made? He will deal with that when it happens. He will assure her that he understands and he knows that she was not in her right mind. He will assure her that he will never let anything happen to her.
