Jean found herself sitting in her office, staring out the window.
The knocking on her door jarred her back to reality.
"Ms Colicci, the gentlemen from Togoshi are in conference room 1"
"Thank you Helen." Jean says as she grabs the file off her desk. She straightens her blazer as she heads to the conference room. This is her first client on her first day as the boss. Stephen had planned to help her through the first two weeks, but he was currently recovering from a stroke. He is out of the woods, but he is unable to walk on his own. Her mind is racked with the feeling that there is something she could have done to help him.
As she is explaining the fund management with the representative from Togoshi, Helen calls into the conference room.
"Ms Colicci, emergency call on line two."
Jean's mind is racing as she has her assistant finish the discussion as she hurried into her office to answer the phone.
On the other end of the line, she hears her mother sobbing. She steels herself, then asks her what happened.
"Your father has had a massive heart attack. The paramedics have been working on him for the last hour."
More incoherent crying and then she hears Carol say, "They couldn't bring him back. Your father is dead."
As Jean hears the words that came out of her mother’s mouth, she collapses onto her sofa in her office. At that moment, Wayne is on his way down the hall and he freezes at seeing her so upset.
All Jean can say to her mother is “Let me call you back” as she hangs up the phone.
She bursts into tears. This is more than Wayne can take, in a moment, he is sitting next to Jean, holding her while she sobs into his chest.
She can’t wrap her mind around how she is going to go on. Her father was her mentor. He was always bigger than life. She didn’t even realize that Wayne had come in until she began to gather her thoughts.
“Where did you come from?”
“I knew you might need me!”
“How did you know?” as she is looking into his eyes seeing pure love.
“Honestly?” he mumbles.
“Yes, I want to honestly know how you knew I would need you?”
“My heart ached and I knew that you needed me.”
At that moment, she wasn’t holding back, she kissed him so tenderly but, with so much passion, he was barely able to respond. He returned the passion as he kissed her back. They were locked in the most loving embrace for about ten minutes.
When they both came back from the lofty and lusty endeavor, they both had to catch their breath.
“Wayne, what was that?” Jean finally says as she is trying to understand what just happened.
As the fog in his head is beginning to clear, “Jean, I have loved you for so long that I don’t remember when I didn’t. I wanted to show you that. I’m sorry that it happened like that. I was completely out of line.”
When she heard what he had to say, a smile crept across her usually pouty lips that she couldn't control. “Wayne, you have nothing to apologize for. I could feel the passion and I met it with my own. I’m only sorry that it has taken this long for me to show you how I feel.”
